I only just became aware of the rifts between to two (three?) parties. This was certainly enlightening.

I disagree with you. Joel may have "invented the game" but it was Mike, Kevin and Bill that kept that game alive. Without those guys keeping it going I highly doubt you'd see either the new mst3k project or this new project from Joel an Co.

I think it kind of a slap in the face after what all Mike, Kevin and Bill have done that all of the sudden they find themselves in competition by Joel. You have to remember it was Joel who left the show - it was Trace who left the show cause they didn't want to do it anymore. As much as I like Joel and Trace it was Mike, Kevin and Bill that kept it going and succesful.

Now with that said I'm excited to see what both new projects bring to the table. However, if this is so much damn interest in riffing and MST related projects it begs the question why not just try to bring the actual show back? I know someone said in here that it doesn't make sense for them to join forces because they'll lose profits. Well I think that the only reason people have any interest in any of the side projects is because of MST3K itself. Sure Mike and Co are making a living off of it - but you can't say that a real comeback of the show itself wouldn't be 10 times more popular than any of the sides projects.

I don't know - I'm excited by everything and disheartened at the sametime. I guess I'd rather just see everyone back together in one big happy family doing MST3K than everyone split up fighting for the same audience.

While I agree on how Mike, Kevin and Bill 'kept it alive'; the 'CT crew' were perhaps longing to do it all over again (much like how Joel put it) but didn't feel like doing it the 'Rifftrax way'.

Other than that, I don't think there's any real competition. Everyone involved in both projects is highly skilled in what they do and wouldn't be ruled out by the other show. Perhaps it would only lead to a increase of quality. (Not saying Rifftrax has a low quality as I have never watched a full Rifftrax'd movie)

The show is over and done. Bringing it back (as much as I would like to see it come back so I can actually watch the show when it is first aired - be it with a some delay - and not 8 years after it was canceled) wouldn't be the same I think.
To me it would be like getting the cast of Star Trek together and send them off into space on collision courses with wackiness.

You see, Mommy and Daddy love each other a lot, they just can't live with each other. It's great to visit and share you, our little riffing babydoll, but Mommy and Daddy together just don't work on all cylinders anymore. But we love each other very much and you more than anything in the world!

I don't see how this is competition any more than Star Trek is competition for Star Wars. Fans of all the main folks involved and movie-riffing in general will eagerly devour both - I know will.

Of course there's no competition. They are two completely different things, and both are wonderful. One is newer films, one is older films; one has sillhouettes, one does not; one has host segements (albeit not a lot), one does not. Two completely different delivery methods. If anything, this is more of an updated Film Crew concept, which is awesome, since I wanted more Film Crew but saw none on the horizon (regardless of what Bob Honcho says).

It's just a win-win situation.

Surely everyone involved realizes the huge interest that could be tapped into with a fully-revitalized MST3K. Even if just for a one-off! Never say never!

And how is the current project they are doing not just a bastardized wanna be comeback of MST? I mean what I'm trying to say is that yes I understand that the show is dead - but I mean if you are going to make a comeback with something like they are wouldn't it make more sense to atleast attempt to comeback with the thing that made you successful in the first place?

Besides its not like the film crew isn't already doing what they are going to do so that makes no sense to me at all. I wasn't referring to rift tracks.

To me I saw the reason that Mike, Kevin and Bill didn't try to keep on doing actual MST3K content is because a: they didn't have a tv contract and b: everyone wanted to do something else.

Now that basically ALL of the shows main players are back in some form or way doing MST related stuff - and obviously they want to be successful - why not just try and make MST3K episodes straight to DVD? To me that would be more succesfull than all three current projects combined.

I'll concede that Rifftrax proved there's still an audience for riffing, but I don't agree with the slap-in-the-face anology. Like I said, I really don't think Trace, Frank, Josh, and Mary Jo would allow themselves to be part of a face-slapping. I know Joel and Trace have, at one time, gone a little aloof on everyone else, but I'd like to think there has been some behind-the-scenes discussions, blessings and well-wishing (if not plans for collaboration).

Joel?
Trace?
Josh?
Frank?
Mary Jo?

This news makes me happy, like a LITTLE GIRL!

Sprocketts!

-does weird dance-

Will Frank and "Fake Frank" be able work together, without driving each other crazy?

Bix Dugan:

1. Joel- Do you (or a fellow CT writer) really listen to Howard 100? If so, the next movie that CT riffs on, AND features a little person, please throw out an "Eric The Midget" reference...

Bix Dugan-- Yes, actually I do, and in “The Oozing Skull” there is a reference to “Eric the Midget”, but I guess you didn’t catch it. I sort of got my Dorro voice from listening to Fred Norris

And? That doesn't mean they won't make more of them. Especially considering how well Riff Tracks has done. Plus they just now released them this year!
