This makes up for injustices like Star Trek having 3 seasons.

Star Trek died just in time. They were rooting through old costume bins. "Oh look, here's all of the costumes from Ben Hur!" "Ah. Next episode will have Romans." "What are we going to do with all of this Nazi regalia from Where Eagles Dare?" "Ah. Summon the scriptwriters yet again." "What about these tommy guns and 1929 Packard from The Untouchables?" "Indeed"

Taking all the spinoffs into consideration, Star Trek ran for 30 seasons. At least half of them were pretty good too.

They sure had some good ones. I remember being disappointed at all of the technobabble in TNG. It seemed to me like TOS was more about human drama than techno crap like "oh start the tachyon beam reversal or whatever". How tiring.
And then one day I happened across the TNG episode "The Inner Light" and I thought , "Wow! What writing!"

Still, back to his point: it's nothing short of miraculous that we got 10... actually, counting KTMA, 11 seasons of MST3K!

I say this all the time when trying to explain to people how special the show was. 11 seasons, TWO hour runtime, a comedy show that wasn't situation or sketch.
I don't know what prosperous stars aligned for MST3k to become what it did, but it would never happen again in this day and age.

How could they not have mentioned this show on "I Love the 90's"?? The show ran for the whole damn decade!

pldmanmerton, I agree that it more than likely wouldn't float as a new concept these days... But, thanks to mst3k's clout, I think it would survive a re-boot of sorts. Especially if any/all of the cast members re-signed on. And they didn't change the format too much. I think it would do well enough for a while to sustain another run. maybe not another 10-11 years...but a few!
No?

I've often though how fortunate Msties are for the long run. Imagine if your favorite show was Faulty Towers, 12 episodes and that's it. We kind of do have an embarrassment of riches, so to speak.

I've often thought this, that it's nothing short of a miracle that MST3K ran for as long as it did, given its odd (for the time) premise, its format and its long run time. And the fact that it never really went "mainstream" the way some erstwhile cult shows did. It basically stayed a cult show, but still managed to stay on the air for an entire decade. Every now and then the universe is kind.

Those are all second season episodes though.
Considering "Where Eagles Dare" came out a year after "Patterns of Force" aired, that would have been a pretty neat trick. Would have been a lot easier to borrow some Hogan's Heroes costumes as they shot on the same studio lot anyway.
Somewhere there has to be a picture of John Banner and Leonard Nimoy in costume together...

I like the optimism of this thread. It was nice that our little puppet show lasted so long, and was basically the same level of quality for the whole run. That's rare for any show, but especially for a two hour series that doesn't fit into any classification.

I'm guessing it falls into the general problem of "I Love the '90s" being terrible and omitting quite a bit of pop culture from the decade. After obsessing over three different "I love the '80s" series, I couldn't believe how boring the '90s one was. I know they were just trying to quickly cash in on the name, but a little effort would have been nice.

To constantly repeat the same action and expect a variant reaction is surely a sign of madness.

| I think a re-boot might work too. Perhaps a series of animated shorts...

Gorncaptain, . . . I have hearrd . . . every worrd . . . you have ssaid.
Sorry, couldn't resist that. Sounds like we need a Star Trek thread in Frank's TV, unless there's already one there not too cold.
To get topical, I was just wondering if the fact that our board is as hopping as it is somewhat flows from this very ten-year run. Not only does it make quite a bundle for late discoverers to get into, but the varying feel of the show over the course of its run perhaps broadens the appeal. Perhaps those initially drawn to the Skiffy era stick with it long enough to acclimate to Comedy Central eps that wouldn't have initially drawn them and vice versa.
