By my count of Travis's list, there are 74 episodes not yet released on DVD: 25 likely or extremely likely and 49 not likely or extremely unlikely. Of the 49 unlikely eps, 10 are controlled by Universal, 9 by MGM, 4 by Warner, 1 by either MGM or Warner, 4 by Sony (including Godzilla), 3 by Paramount, 3 by Lions Gate, 7 by the Arkoff Estate, 5 by the Nicholson Estate (including the caution with Attack of The The Eye Creatures), 2 New Horizons, and then Gorgo.
That's it. Almost 2/3 of the remaining episodes controlled by 6 major studios and 2 estates. Without a deal with one of those 8 players, we have about 2-3 more years of Shout! sets. On the other hand, it makes it pretty simple to know who to focus on for the future.
I forget, is the Arkoff Estate owned by Lions Gate, or licensed to them, or what? I would think that unless Lions Gate is holding it up, they'd be somewhat more accessible.
Just watched the "Making the Creeper" special feature on the mst3k xxii dvd set. The credits thank both Kit Parker Films and VCI entertainment.
You figure out what (if anything) that means for Gorgo's Likelihood.
VCI has licensed a bunch of stuff from Kit Parker. I wish I could find out why GORGO was only aired twice [my theory is either A) SciFi assumed it was PD and screwed up like they did with ZAAT or B) There was a dissagreement on whether Warner or VCI had the TV rights or C) VCI wanted too much money to re-air it]. As for the video release, it would seem VCI has the rights (though have no original materials). I could see this coming out on a future set for sure.

Lions Gate licensed some of the movies owned by the Arkoff estate to release on DVD. Shout could potentially sub-license the MSTied titles directly from the Arkoff estate, but might have to go through Lions Gate. I believe it depends on the original agreements, etc. It's safe to say we'll see the Arkoff-controlled films long before the Susan Hart ones!
I think negotiations take a MUCH longer time with the big studios, hence why we haven't seen any yet (though the CBS Television titles are a step in the right direction!).

Maybe this was discussed already but I've been curious about Universal episodes (Revenge of the Creature, Leech Woman, Mole People). Could an expert inform me on the backstory of those episodes?

When the SciFi Channel (owned by NBC Universal) picked up MST3k, they had easy access to the Universal "classic era" library (that package of films was already being shown on the network). And since SciFi initially made them choose "SciFi" type movies, it must have been one-stop shopping. I myself wonder if they tried to pick "better known" B-movies for the first few episodes to get more viewers.
I'm going to go out on a limb and say we are going to be getting the following for Volume XXIV:
Riding with Death Puma Man Fugitive Alien Attack of the the Eye Creatures
I know it's a pipe dream, but I have to hold on to something.
I could totally see FUGITIVE ALIEN and even RIDING WITH DEATH on a future set, as well as PUMA MAN (if they can find the current rights holders). EYE CREATURES is most likely with MGM from what I've been reading lately.

The next volume's been announced! Here was Travis' predictions:
310 - Fugitive Alien Tsuburaya Productions. Now that TIME OF THE APES and MIGHTY JACK have been announced, it's safe to say FA will follow! <EXTREMELY-LIKELY>
318 - Star Force: Fugitive Alien 2 Tsuburaya Productions. See #310. <EXTREMELY-LIKELY>
617 - The Sword and the Dragon aka Ilya Muromets Image Entertainment (licensed from Rusico). *DVD released by Image Entertainment* <EXTREMELY-LIKELY>
624 - Samson vs. The Vampire Women Cinematografica Rodriguez, SA de CV has a restored copyright under the URAA. There's also a 1997 URAA by Rafael Garcia Travesi. I don't know if they view Santo the same way Kadokawa views Gamera... *DVD released by Image Entertainment (out of print)* <LIKELY>

Yah, totally nailed THAT one.
A few years ago, I wouldn't have dreamed we'd be seeing all of the Tsuburaya TV-movie episodes released. Wonderful times to be a MSTie!

Shout Factory may just be my favorite THING in the history of anything. Seriously, the season 1 and 3 floodgates they opened for the series shows just how much effort they put into their products. The attention they give to MST in particular is phenominal.
I can't wait to see just how far they can go with the series. It's starting to feel like we'll eventually see almost all of it on DVD.

I get that feeling too. A few years ago when Rhino had it I wouldn't have had that thought, but Shout has really put a lot of effort into going after the rights instead of just grabbing at the low hanging fruit. Although I've pretty much comes to terms with the fact that I'll never see Godzilla vs. The Sea Monster on an official DVD. Course if Shout pulled that off I may just have to divorce my wife and marry it.
