ahem, all right guys, correct me if I'm wrong but aren't bagpipes scottish? There is a special Irish kind of bagpipe but the correct spelling it eludes me at the moment.
Is it sacrilege if I drink a pint of Glenfiddich today?

As long as you're drinking, I don't think it matters.

He's quite the sentimental fella, isn't he, for a man who hasn't been sober for more than twenty years....or maybe that's why? Nah, I was talking about Shane McGowan...I thought that was a quote from him too, but looking at it again maybe not. Ancient Chinese Secret...uh, Irish Blessing.

According to this you're quite correct. Do you wonder what the difference is between them? Then check this out. After all, it's quite appropriate to make jokes about Scottish pipes on a day celebrating all things Irish. Right?

In the spirit of Sloane...Erin Go Braless!
...wait a minute...
Anyway. I won't be drinking today, but then I never do. However, I am wearing a green t-shirt right now, and we're going to have a traditional Irish (or Irish-American, anyway) dinner later on tonight. We also have some old vinyl records of Irish folk tunes and jigs and so forth that still works; probably going to listen to a bit of that as well.
And during dinner, I'm going to bust out my copy of...Gorgo!...and show it to my family. After all, hey, it _was_ made in Ireland... It was my turn for the night's entertainment tonight anyway, and I was planning to do a MST since it's a weekend night and there's time for a movie, so... Actually _I_ haven't seen that one yet, either. By the time I got around to watching the Sci-Fi reruns on Saturday morning, they had already cut out a bunch of episodes. So it'll be a new experience for all of us! :P

Ugh. All this stuff about bagpipes is inching me closer to selling the damn things and getting a set of Scottish small pipes to play instead. The only difference being that they are much quieter and like the Ulliean Pipes, they are played by blowing up a bellows rather than inflating the bag with a blowpipe.
I am never joining another bagpipe band in my life (see the above picture) because most pipers are asshats. If you go to a practice you have to listen to angry diatribes about politics, who is wrong and other stuff that has nothing to do with playing music. (see the above picture). Another sad truth about pipes and pipe bands in America is most white supremacy groups and right wing kooks in the U.S. ADORE bagpipes. Every time the KKK burns a cross they play "Amazing Grace" by the Scots Dragoon Guards. I saw a documentary on white supremacists on the History Channel once and there among all the Nazi regalia and camo were dudes in kilts! I've come to the conclusion that playing the pipes makes these slime balls feel great about themselves so I quit playing two years ago. None of this has anything to do the way playing pipes are perceived in other countries, but over here that is the sad truth.

I am never joining another bagpipe band in my life (see the above picture) because most pipers are asshats. And dangerous as well... The Daily Record"14 March 2006 PIPER KILLERThug beat bandmate to death for poor playing By Gordon Mcilwraith A PIPER killed a bandmate because he thought he had played badly in a competition, a court heard yesterday. Keith Drysdale, 38, launched a frenzied attack on James Mearing at a practice session. He repeatedly punched Mr Mearing in the face, kicked him and threw a chair at him. The 51-year-old victim, who was a well-known busker in Edinburgh, suffered a brain haemorrhage and died in hospital."
