It is incredibly depressing to me. I have bascially been a fan since a baby (born in Jan. 1988 in Minneapolis and my dad watched the KTMA season and I was infront of the TV. That's funny that you mention that, because my dad used to watch it when I was like 6 or 7 (seasons' 1 and 2 I guess). When I first saw the door sequence on my first EVER viewed MST episode (MST3K: The Movie), I said "wow, this looks really familiar".

I remember being really surprised the first time I saw a door-sequence different from the one in The Movie. I said, "Man, things've changed!"
Now the Movie almost looks unnatural at times....

I'm hopeful because I think the end of the Sci-Fi Channel broadcasts might be a blessing in disguise.
This is because I read somewhere that the Sci-Fi Channel has an exclusive contract to broadcast the show. So once that contract ends, some other channel will be able to pick up the rights and show reruns. So I'm hopeful that another channel is interested, picks up the rights, and we finally get reruns of some Comedy Central episodes again.

That would be awesome, because there are so many CC eps that I haven't seen yet.

It really sucks that it's leaving the air. I do hope that AMC would pick it up. After all, I've seen them show a few movies that were on MST3K (the Brain That Wouldn't Die, Black Scorpion), so buying rights to movies wouldn't be that hard for them. But I doubt it.
I still haven't seen every episode yet, and only have about 30-something on tape. I'm trying to get a job right now and build me an MST3K fund so I can buy episodes over the net. The show is long gone, but I still have a lot to look forward too. I'm especially fond of the Japanese movie episodes Prince of Space and Invasion of the Neptune Men, so Japanese episodes are on the top of my list right now.
Tis a sad time. A legacy has ended. But bad movies continue to rise. Hopefully some day we will see Mystery Science Theater 3000: the Next Generation.

donmac raises an interesting point abit Sci Fi having exclusive rights while they have it. There has to be a lot of CCs that are now public domain. If another network can workout a deal with BBI maybe some of those will surface again. Wishful thinking?

It would be cool if we wrote letters to CC or some other network asking if they could air it this christmas. Out there, yes. Possible, yes.

Usually I get "annoying" and "in the way" but I'm open to new ones! I just think it's unfair that such a quality show sinks into the abyss however Nick @ Nite feels the need to show the Cosby Show umpteen times a night (I used to like Cosby, now I'm just sick of it, we're beyond just reruns here).

Personaly, I'd love to see CC take the series back. So much of the library now is Public Domain, I think they could do the show justice.... the unfortunate being they'd have to still hock up some money to do so.
I'd love to see the show that picks it up run a Marathon like they used to do in the old days. Thanksgiving marathon, they did a Christmas one once I think...
Maybe we could petition Spike TV!

Someone will pick it up. There's too much of a market for old TV programs. I can guarantee that whichever network picks it up won't be available on my local cable.
I'm awfully lucky that way!

The best hope is that it goes back into production. With the complicated rights issues of the older eps, I don't see them ever showing on another network. Seems it would be much less expensive to rebuild the bots, some version of the set and go from there. Maybe getting away from Sci-fi will open up some doors?

Question is, would Mike, Kevin, Bill and all the rest be up for it? It HAS been four years and they've all moved on to other projects since then. If anything, a new MST movie would be a more likely choice, but given the first movie's performance (not BBI's fault), I doubt the idea would be considered. Still, one can hope. I'll keep my fingers crossed.

It’s sad that this could be the last time MST3K would air on TV, but I can understand with the cost of the movies and they keep on showing the same couple episodes every time. It sucks since I’ve been only watching for about a year and a half, but I already taped all of the episodes they’ve shown on Sci-fi. So, all I can hope is for some other network to pick up the show and it would be great if they had old ep’s with Joel.
As for what episode I would want to air in the final viewing, I would probably want Diabolik, just so I can finally tape it again. That show would be the obvious choice as some others have already said, but it would be nice for that to happen. Other than that, Track of the Moonbeast, just because it was my first episode, but I think it’ll be on in December.
“Watching you turn into a Moonbeast, was like watching paint dry”
