I'd like to collect a petition from as many MSTies as possilble that we will all begin playing our state lotteries as soon as possible. Then 25% of all winnings will be put in escro to fund new episodes of MST3K. That way, we wouldn't have to depend on network executives at all (if someone wins, of course). We could offer episodes free to everyone who signed the petition, and sell the rest through Rhino.

When I was in college, I had the following bumper sticker on my '85 Ford Escort:
LOTTERY: A tax on people who are bad at math.
Man, I wish I still had that.
The sticker, not the car. #nosmileys

You'd have to be a really, REALLY devoted fan to give up lots of money to restart a TV show, even if it is MST3K.

If only Bill Gates loved MST3K as much as us. I think, every 15 seconds he makes the production costs of a KTMA episode.

If I won the lottery, I wouldn't spend it all trying to ressurrect a show that hasn't been made in five years.

I'd love to find someone who would be willing to do a show "very much like" MST3K, but I wouldn't want to get the old cast and robots back. As Pearl so aptly put it right before she "pulled the plug" in Diabolik, "Move on Nelson, I have!" I think we should respect the Best Brains crew's wishes to let it go and move on. Maybe a reunion show wouldn't be out of place some years form now, but who's to say? So the best we can hope for is a new show, new cast and new robots. And, yeah, If I won the Florida lottery, I'd be looking into backing a new MST3K!!!! I think we are lucky to have 10 years of deeply layered shows to draw on and treasure. Look at what Trek (TOS) fans have to put up with. Three measly years! What is left to discuss? Hairstyles?

Personally, I wouldn't spend the money on resurecting the show, I'd see if I could match Jim Mallon's price and release K00-K03 on the MSTies of the world!

I can't move on!!!! It would be great if they brought back MST3K, it's one the best shows American TV has had in the 20th Century.

So the best we can hope for is a new show, new cast and new robots. So it'll be MST3K: The Next Generation? I agree with Forrest, HELL NO!

So it'll be MST3K: The Next Generation? I agree with Forrest, HELL NO! Then you might as well have stopped the show when Josh left. Maybe when Joel left? Trace even? Face it, Mystery Science Theater 3000: the Next Generation already happened, only we refer to it as Season 8-10. The beauty of MST3K was always that it never mattered who sat in the theater seats. It all depended on two things: Bad movies and good writing. We have an infinate number of bad movies, but as long as there's a good writing team on the show, I'll be watching. A new MST3K would be awsome, but not right now. In about 10 years when the show is all but forgoten. Then it could rise again and introduce a new generation to what is arguably the greatest television show in history.

Torgo. I disagree big time. Though MST3K has gone through numerous changes, one thing remained. Mike as head writer. And even though Trace left the show, and Josh and Joel, and Frank, all the other writers stayed. The key to why MST3K was so funny, IMO, was Mike. No offense, but Joel doing his own thing doesn't make me laugh that much. Sorry, the KTMAs simply dont make me laugh that much, and to be honest, the few laughs I got were from Trace and Josh. Joel NEVER made me laugh in the theater on KTMA. I still liked Joel, he's 5000 times more likeable than Pauly Shore, but he simply did not make me laugh much. Sorry. And yes, I thought his skit on SNL was terrible. I can think of much better comic magicians. The Amazing Johnathen comes to mind. However, Mike, when he became head writer, the show got WAYYYYYY better. And you know what? Joel got funnier too. I think Mike was key to the show. That's just me though. Another key reason was becuase BBI expanded, but they all knew each other. The new writers for the show were elected by the old writers. If a new MST, will ALL new writers came out, Id make a petition against it. I wouldn't mind if the show changed again over time, but I'd hate it iff they'd start fresh with ALL NEW stuff. Screw that. HELL NO. We don't completely disagree. Mike was pretty much covered when I said the show had good writing. And I do agree the show got way better when he became head writer. However, I would like to see some other writers try to take on the show if Mike doesn't come back. Like I said, as long as the writing is at least half as good as Mike's, I'll watch.

I agree with you. How would they pick the show up from "We crash landed and are on Earth forever." Face it, a new cast and crew with a new plot to do so.

Since when has continuity been associated with the show? How about Peal places rockets under his appartment ans shoots it into space? And it goes into a new improved Satellite of Love? Why not? THe original premise is just as ridiculous. Exactly. There are any number of ways they could write them back into space. What would be the point of a new cast? Would the original crew want to just write for someone else? And if they got new writers and a new cast what would you have? A bigger budget version of the fan MSTings. If you want a new crew get some fan MSTings. If the show were to come back in some form I'd want the same people on screen.

After all, the Brains rounded up a great group. Who says there isn't more?
