First of all, The Family Guy is animation. Animation can be done ANYWHERE. TV shows don't just REAPPEAR...Believe me, I work in this business. MST as we've know it is over. DVD sales WILL NOT bring it back. Again, I'm not looking to burn down Rhino, and I'm not saying that these errors are deal breakers, I'm just saying that the attitude that "We've got no other choice." is in error. Cooperation is key. A more symbiotic relationship with Rhino and fans would work wonders.

The question that everyone seems to be dodging here is whether or not they made a mistake at all. In a few days I'm going to watch the whole disc, but what I saw so far was some pretty bad tape damage. If everything is tape damage, and that's the best master in existence, then it's neither BBI's fault for providing the tape nor is it Rhino's fault for screwing up the mastering process. Hence all this complaining (or at least directing it at any party in particular) could be completely pointless, and just another excuse for certain people who are for some reason waiting for Rhino to screw up to get excited.
This thread contains more than one post along the lines of "Aha! Another screwup. Good thing I didn't buy the set, Rhino doesn't care I'm never buying again etc." when they don't even know what they're complaining about. Unfortunately for them there may be no one to blame.

Everyone makes good points here but it doesn't matter if it's the BBI or Rhino - I wont buy a sub par product again. Glitches like this shouldn't happen time and again. I shouldn't have to write a letter of complaint on the majority of the sets I buy. I'm looking at the DVD shelf, I haven't felt compelled to write one complaint letter, Rhino/BBI WTF-ever can't make it through 2 releases without one.
If they want my money, from here on out they have to earn it. Just like, well everyone else who puts out a product has too. I love MST, but this has crossed a line with me.
S'okay?

No matter what I'm still gonna buy from Rhino for two reasons:
1. I have no bootleg copies of any MST3K eps and 2.Want to see eps I havn't seen!

That's cool, and I'm not saying I'll never buy a Rhino set again. Just that for me they have to raise the standards - when they do, I'll buy.
It's the same reason I wont buy a Mercury, LOL

MJ, I get where you're coming from, but I don't at all get how it applies to this. If it was the best tape available how could it possibly be sub-par? If the glitch is unavoidable how can it merit a letter of complaint? Shouldn't you bother to see the footage in question before deciding that it fails to meet your standards? I really don't see why you said what you did other than to get in that you won't buy the set.
I can tell you this: some of the stuff I saw is pretty bad, but it's not like it's unwatchable. It's still a high quality transfer much better than a fan version, but with several tape artifacts, most of which pop up after the scene that stills were provided for.

I've received this set. It will be my last until they do a better job.
My fan copy is glitch free, None of that fading or picture streaks. So it's inexcusable that they've released this, when my disc doesn't have these same artifacts.
It shouldn't be unavoidable - companies release material older than MST all the time which looks miles better than this. I hold Rhino and BBI accountable for what they release, I earned that right the minute I opened my wallett and gave them my cash.
It's sad that when I watch Merlin and now DTB, that I'll be watching my home made copies and not the "professional" releases.

As of this moment, nobody knows why these glitches happen on the disc, because NO ONE HAS ASKED RHINO ABOUT IT! No one can assume it was "unavoidable", "the master tape was bad", "Rhino's transfer process is bad", it was "BBI's fault" or "Rhino's fault". If no one else is gonna write an e-mail, I guess I will.

Thanks, Blurry. I was just composing one, and it occurred to me that I only have second-hand hersay info about the gaffs on the discs. Thanks for takin' this one...

Well, anyone else can write a letter if they want. They may notice more if they get more than one e-mail about it. But if you haven't bought the set yourself, maybe you should hold off.

Couldn't traders start copying Rhino episodes for people who've already bought them? I know it's a bit pointless, but if people want the better, non-Rhino versions, then maybe the trader could ask them for proof they own the Rhino set - say, 3 or 4 screengrabs from exact times from the episode?
