I watched El Dorado the other day. Fine movie. I've heard that it's quite similar to Rio Bravo, which I haven't seen, but take off or not, El Dorado is yet another rock solid Wayne western. James Caan stands out as Mississippi, a somewhat inexperienced mercenary in a lawless country. My only complaint (much like True Grit) would be some of the hairstyles that are indistinguishable from the styles of 1966, although to be honest, Michele Carey, as Joey McDonald, is delicious with her mop of hair and skin-tight designer jeans. A lot of movies have that problem with the era-specific hair styles though. Personally, I think that when a movie tries to beat you over the head with 'THIS....IS... 1880!' it tends to get a bit annoying. Yes, the costumes are important, but I usually don't judge a film by its costumes.
