Hey, I love the Evil Dead Trilogy too! And Jaws, and Night of the Living Dead...and even Scream.. I'm talking beyond those movies. Something that I would say in an open room and get blank stares, like Freddy's Dead (D'oh! I mean, not that I like Freddy's Dead, I mean...aw crap). Who cares if you get blank stares or are ridiculed by anyone here! If you like it you like it, and shouldn't be at all ashamed to admit it...Unless it's a film starring Rob Schneider that is

Don't you ever imply that! I have some dignity, you know! God, Rob Schnieder. The scariest thing in Hollywood.

New movie idea-Freddy and Jason Vs. Schneider...I have a feeling it would be close just because Schneider would use his brand of Anti-Humor to destroy the both of them!

Halloween III wasn't in 3-D. I think DQ is a little mixed up on that. Wait... Friday the 13th part three was in 3-D. Sorry, I confuse those so easily.

Yup, twas part 3, the one where Jason gets the hockey mask. I was really happy to see Nosforatu pop up on your list Forrest. It’s amazing how such an old film can still inspire chills like that. My favorite types of horror movies (besides the ones with goofy monsters) usually involve horror with no explanation. Like how Romero’s zombies in the Dead series just get up and start eating people for no reason. They offer a possible explanation in Night, but by Dawn he makes it clear that no one knows why it’s happening. I think that people in general have a basic need to figure things out, a sort of born curiosity, and that in turn we are frightened of thing that we don’t understand.

I didn't list it because I didn't think it was really a "horror" movie, but after thinking about it for awhile what else would you call the film Open Water? Just the thought of being stuck in the middle of the ocean with no help in sight, sharks bumping you, and having to be there AT NIGHT is good old fashioned nightmare fuel as far as I'm concerned.
The film was very well done in my opinion and I thought the actors playing the couple did a phenominal job. My wife and I both agreed that they sounded a lot like we would, that's for sure! Anyway I'm going to say this one ties Chainsaw for #10 in my list.

I'd personally call it a suspense/drama. All of it's elements can be easily found in many disaster movies, which aren't considered horror films.
But meh. Tomato, tom-ah-to,

I like:
I. All of the Halloweens except the steaming pile of trash called 3 II. All of the Friday the 13ths because they're so cheesy III. A Nightmare on Elm Street IV. Scream V. The Shining (original, the six hour TV one wasn't good at all.)

V. The Shining (original, the six hour TV one wasn't good at all.) You mean, "The Shining: Touched By An Angel Ending" LOL Yeah, that wasn't too good. Though Stephen King insists his is better than Kubrick's

Anyway I'm going to say this one ties Chainsaw for #10 in my list. Even though the ending blew (imo), I am so glad I saw this in the theater. That night scene was so awesome in the dark like that. (so was the grave scene in Kill Bill Volume 2) I'm way more scared by things that could actually happen to me, more than crazy slashers. And with that I say that my favorite scary movie is Stephen King's It. I still can barely watch it. I see that damn clown's face and I freak out. Carrie and Pet Semetary really get to me too. Maximum Overdrive (or was it Trucks? haha) didn't quite have the same effect on me. As for slasher movies, I dig Halloween. The first one and H20 are the only two that I've seen that I really like. Keep in mind I haven't seen the second one. The only Jason movie I've seen all the way through was Freddy vs. Jason - hilarious! I have seen the beginning (and only the beginning) to New Nightmare probably 10 times. Something always stops me from watching it all. I actually like those though, I saw like the first three or something. Makes me a little leery of going to sleep. Zombie movies don't quite do it for me, though 28 Days Later was good. Things like the Amityville Horror and the Exorcist bore me to tears. Now I will make the most pathetic part of my post. The only two movies to actually creep me out and make me check closets have been Candyman and Saw.

That post wasn't quite longwinded enough, I need to add to it. Child's Play freaked me out, damn creepy doll. Bride and Seed of Chucky were good fun. The original Texas Chainsaw Massecre pissed me off, that stupid ho screaming at the end was one of the most annoying things EVER. The new one I just have issues with.
By the way, did everyone see they made a remake of The Fog? I couldn't get the riff from Pod People out of my head during the trailer. "The movie The Fog didn't have this much fog!" I now await the remake of The Blob.

I too find that last 20 minutes with her bellowing to be EXTREMELY obnoxious. That is the main reason I'm not a huge fan of the film, even though I think the rest of it is well done.

The original Texas Chainsaw Massecre pissed me off, that stupid ho screaming at the end was one of the most annoying things EVER. The first time I watched this movie as a kid, my mom said "I wish they would hurry up and kill her before I need a nerve pill". I still get a chuckle everytime I watch that movie. I couldn't even begin to name a top ten, because I love horror movies so much. I will say I have liked all the ones mentioned so far, except for the Scream trilogy. I only saw the first one, but that was enough for me. I even like halloween 3, not as a halloween series movie, but on its on. Metling Manos I agree about the Dawn of the Dead remake being great. I went into it not expecting to like it, but I enjoyed it more than the original(which I like alot). Running zombies are scary.

For anyone who is interested, the original Haunting (the greatest horror movies ever made in my opinion) is on at 12:30 a.m. EST tonight on TCM.
They've been showing films directed by Robert Wise all day because of his recent death.
