Looks like that Spider-Man trailer is going to remain a Brazil exclusive and Sony will be sitting on it until next year.

Fun fact of the day: without credits, Venom is only 91 minutes long.
I guess this is a good thing because more credits means more jobs. But still, 20 minutes of scrolling names is a he'll of a long time to wait for a post credit scene.

I haven't seen Venom, but it is kind of refreshing that a director got his vision into just over 90 minutes. Not every flick needs the 160 minutes treatment. And, as much as I like Todd McFarlane and his whole run on Spider-Man back in the day, Venom is a really overrated character. He can be fun, but I don't need much more than 90 minutes with him. Hey, maybe I'll change my mind when I see it.

My observation was more commenting on how crazy long end credits have become, since the official runtime is 112 minutes. Watching at home and seeing the end credits at the hour and a half mark made me go "so THAT'S why it seemed so short." Though bear in mind there is a four minute preview to Into the Spider-Verse at the end.
Though "vision" is not really a word I'd use to describe the movie myself, lol. But yeah, it's definitely bladder friendly.

Oh yeah, I agree, you watch some of the new Star Wars movies and the credits length is absurd. Then the other night I was watching a James Bond movie (You Only Live Twice, I think) and the credits took like three and a half minutes or something like that (I actually took note).

I am happy, any day with a new Marvel trailer is a happy day! It's a nice little trailer, though it's weird to think this will take place after Avengers: Endgame. Sure does leave a lot to fill in between now and then.
I enjoyed the first MCU Spider-Man entry, and I'm sure I will with this one, too. Holland is really pretty good. He brings a lot with just his voice when he has the mask on. The personality comes through clearly. And I'd watch Marisa Tomei talk to a baseball glove for two hours. I've been a fan for years and you can probably see the little hearts floating around my head. It's a weakness.
I like the character Spider-Man quite a bit, though I never really got into him until the McFarlane and Larsen comic runs in the early 1990s, so I'm not quite as schooled as I should be. Here's kind of a worthless question - May is Peter's aunt, and they both have the last name Parker. So would Ben, May's late husband, be Peter's dad's brother? I realize name traditions don't necessarily mean as much these days as they once did, but I was curious if this was ever discussed in the comics.
The "first look" trailer for Captain Marvel was also quite good. Loved the use of "Connection" by Elastica.

If I'm remembering my Spider-Man lore right then Ben and Peter's dad were indeed brothers. I believe May's maiden name is Reily, which is where Peter's clone Ben Reily got his name from. So May is really only related to Peter by marriage.
I'm actually loving the trailer a little more each time I watch it. I liked Homecoming, though I wasn't over the moon about it. I didn't really understand the stance that it was the best Spidey movie ever in a universe where a movie as brilliantly crafted and powerful as Spider-Man 2 exists personally (Into the Spider-Verse I understand, Homecoming not so much). The Far From Home trailer is a double down on Homecoming and it looks as if it might be adding some more epic touches. Can't wait to see the final produce. Just...Endgame first, lol.
I'm curious if these "Elementals" are just an illusion by Mysterio or not. Pretending to be the hero is definitely something he'd do, but are they real or just some smoke and mirrors? They could easily just be Molten Man, Hydro Man, and Sandman too.

Spider-Man 2 is a heck of a great movie. Really, the first two Raimi movies are really, really good. I don't think I've ever seen either Amazing Spider-Man all the way through. And I haven't seen Into the Spider-Verse, and honestly, I'm not overly excited to. I had a chance to watch the animated Doctor Strange movie from a few years ago on Netflix and re-discovered that I have a hard time watching animated stuff anymore. Maybe I just have to be in the right mood. I got the same impression on Mysterio - it looks like he's playing hero using his tricks. I suppose they could pull a complete 180 and make him a new hero, but the universe is in need of good villains, so why waste a well-known one by flipping him to the good side? We'll see.

If I may push Spider-Verse a little, I'd say it's a bit worlds apart from that Doctor Strange movie. That whole direct to DVD line was...not great. Spider-Verse is more in the same league as The Incredibles, I'd say. Don't know how you feel about those films, but I love 'em.
Speaking of Incredibles, I don't know what Mysterio's motive is but the use of him here as someone pretending to be a hero to win public favor reminds me a lot of Syndrome from that first movie.

Also: Ben Reilly AKA Scarlet SpiderThe long and short of it was that Spider-Man and Gwen Stacy were cloned by the Jackal in the 70's, but both clones were "killed." In the 90's it was revealed that the Peter clone was still alive, who assumed a different identity named after his aunt and uncle, Ben Reilly, and became a second Spider-Man called Scarlet Spider. They later made the claim that Ben was actually Peter himself and the Peter we knew was actually the clone who thought he was the original Peter, and he took over the mantle of Spider-Man for a few years. This was an attempt to revert Spider-Man away from the domestic married life he had settled into in the comics but fan reaction was negative, so it was retconned and Ben Reilly was killed at the end of the infamous Clone Saga. I think he has been brought back since then but I'm not as familiar with post-2000 Spider-Man as I am earlier stuff.

And what's this? A new Marvel trailer? That also must mean it's time for a breakdown by Mr. Sundayyyyyyyyyy...'s editor. Some guy named Ben! Hooray! But it does seem to be related through a normal Mr. Sunday script, so it's still worth checking out!

Well I'll be a son of a bitch. Black Panther got a Best Picture nomination! I do think it was nominated out of pressure more than anything, after their "Popular" Oscar award or whatever it was turned out to be an epic fail PR campaign. Plus they nominated Bohemian Rhapsody, which while far from unwatchable was...not great. I'm hearing similar things about Vice, but that one feels like it was nominated because Christian Bale props it up.
The superhero love doesn't stop there. Incredibles 2 and Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse were nominated for Best Animated. Black Panther also got technical nominations for Production Design, Costume Design, Original Score, Original Song, Sound Mixing, and Sound Editing. Avengers: Infinity War was nominated for Visual Effects. Bao, the short film that played with Incredibles 2, was nominated for Best Animated Short.

Wow, I know some had been kicking around the possibility something like this might happen, but it's still wild to see it actually occur.
I'll be honest, the first time I saw Black Panther, I thought it was a bit underwhelming considering the hype. I had a complete turnaround when I saw it a second time, though. It hit me much harder and I suddenly felt in the flow of the movie. It jumped way up my list of great MCU movies, and it's now one of my favorites.
But an Oscar nomination? Yeah, I think there may be some pressure at work there. I'm rooting for it, but I'm not going to hold my breath on that, though I didn't see the other candidates.

Personally I thought if Logan didn't get nominated last year then we would probably never see a superhero film nominated for Best Picture (it got a screenplay nod though). I know there were pushes for The Dark Knight and Wonder Woman as well, but that Wolverine film felt like the most Oscar-type movie the genre would ever produce. I'm glad to have been proven wrong, and Black Panther is my favorite of the films that have been rumored to break that proverbial glass ceiling on the genre, so I'm happy this is the one.
I still don't expect it to win. It's like Star Wars or Avatar. More people saw and loved it, but the smaller, more dramatic movie is going to win. However I will say Bohemian Rhapsody won the Best Picture Golden Globe. Maybe this is the year of out of left field winners.
At the same time though, it just feels like the Academy's reaction to declining ratings, desperate to seem like they're still "with it" and "down with the kids." The first sign was the Popular Film Oscar, which exploded in their faces. Kevin Hart as host was another, but he backfired as well. Now there are rumors they're trying to get the Marvel stars together as a group host, and Black Panther might be an honoring of that. The question is will that backfire too?
