I agree. Watching it on TV on a single DVD is the best way to enjoy them. Thats why I re-author my RiffTrax. However, do you have one of those computers/laptops that has tv out? You know, its either an s-video or rca video out that can plug into your tv. That would be pretty easy to hook up.

I prefer their Film Crew work as I've mentioned in other threads. It feels more like MST3K to me. Riffing just works better on cheesy old B-movies in my mind. Riffing films like Raiders of the Lost, on the other hand, seems bizarre to me. Why would you even want to?
Plus I dislike the need to download the trax (I have a dial-up modem) and then rent the film in order to enjoy it. The product is simply less convenient, even if you already own the film. With an episode of MST3K or Film Crew, I just pop the DVD in and watch it in the comfort of my living room (or wherever).

The Film Crew, no contest. I don't find Rifftrax very funny at all.

I wasn't the only one to offer this feedback, but it wasn't received well at first by RiffTrax. I understand that they have allot on their plates, but in my mind, this is something they should have tackled before they went live with the RiffTrax project. RiffTrax has been around for a little over a year and they are just getting around to a RiffTrax player now. Gammer, I'm not exactly sure what gave you that impression but they've always known that people wanted a software player, but it certainly wasn't the sort of thing that would stop them from getting started. This is far from the first go, this is just the first one that has gone to a public beta. This isn't the sort of thing Legend Films usually does, they've had to outsource it. They've gone through a lot of builds and a few different companies to get to this point. The main issue of course has been what technique to use to sync it and keep it synced while fast forwarding, rewinding, jumping aorund chapters etc. It's pretty stable right now and worked reasonably well on the one DVD I could try (The Matrix, there are no PAL .riff files yet). In the meantime there is Sharecrow which is what I used before I started re-authoring my rifftrax/dvds.

In the meantime there is Sharecrow which is what I used before I started re-authoring my rifftrax/dvds. The first response I got (I think it was from Conor), was a flat out "no", to the RiffTrax player. He indicated that the cost of doing it and the time needed to program it would be too much. Again, this was right at the beginning. I was aware of RiffTrax working with Sharecrow for a bit, but I guess it never panned out. I am happy to see RiffTrax progress to the beta version they have now. The point of my post is that I'm glad they are making a player, but initially, my impression was that they didn't want to entertain the idea of a player. Also, in my opinion, I wish they spent more time working on a player before making DiY and that 3-D/Bobble head thingy. Again, thats just my opinion.

I have sharecrow, and it's what I plan on using to play the one I have. I don't see the Rifftrax player on their front page, must be cuz it's still in beta

Yeah see it really didn't have anything to do with DIY and that video, they do graphics and flash coding themselves.
Yeah there was a thread for sign up to test it but they aren't taking any more at the moment.

Well there are some hopeful words from Brian Ward on the Shout! forum about the future of The Film Crew. He's a manager there and while he can't say for certain right now he's using such language as:
"We're looking to get the boys back on the air."
"Everyone should keep their fingers crossed."
"It could happen"
"Everyone appears to be game."
It's not solid, but as he advises, I'm keeping my fingers crossed!

Cool! I posted over at shoutfactory and thanked Brian for the info.
Considering we know someone is watching the forum over there, maybe we should get everyone from here to post over there how much they like the DVDs and that they would buy more. Probably not as persuasive as the actual sales figures, but couldn't hurt.

Thanks for the info, Voyeur. My fingers are crossed too! Isn't it funny? A few years ago, when the last rerun of MST3K was played on the SciFi Channel, I was crestfallen. I thought it was the end of their riffs forever (thanks again skyroniter for getting me thru it). Now, between The Film Crew and RiffTrax...I'm in a good place. ;D

I think the big (and obvious) "if" in doing more Film Crew, is weather Mike and gang have time to make more and if they want to do more. I'm sure they do. Its probably just a matter of getting all them together and hammering a few more out. Now, between The Film Crew and RiffTrax...I'm in a good place. ;D Huzzah!

Yes we are certainly better off than 2 years ago. Agreed. The fact that we can even have a Rifftrax vs. Film Crew thread is great!
