I saw Big Country when they were current. It was quite good. That's very cool. Do you know how to play any of their songs? Do you have their last record, Driving to Damascus? It was great...still is. I listen to it a lot. I don't even know how many albums they had. I have the first two I think. I never learned any of their songs. The show I saw was in a small hall on the Davis College campus. A fun show.

Cinema Strange, their first album. I've seen them live a couple times in New York, at the Drop Dead Festival. They're very twee and super-gothy and kind of SO pretentious that they're almost NOT pretentious. I just love 'em, although my hubby doesn't like me to play them in the house because he can't stand Lucas Lanthier's voice. It is an acquired taste, I admit. Sorta operatic, a bit like Klaus Nomi, although not quite THAT operatic.

"Bad Moon Rising" by CCR. Don't go around tonight Well, it's bound to take your life. There's a bathroom on the right. John Fogerty knew how to write a song as good as (or better than) anyone in the the history of rock music. He perfected the technique of leaving the listener wanting more. The brevity of his songs contributed to that, of course, but the extatic hooks, more than anything else, compel you to listen to them over and over.

listening to a Las Vegas Grind series CD. This is put out by a German company but it's American music, rarities from the 50's and 60's. The kind of music that never made the radio because it was too "dirty" (and as you can imagine "too black") but probably got a lot of play in strip bars. Great rock and roll that beats most of the sanitized hits of the early rock era.
