I'm glad to see that Hulu is showing Film Crew's Hollywood After Dark. Is Hulu going to eventually post the other episodes of Film Crew? I hope the answer is yes. I've been sharing this on my myspace and facebook pages. Considering that this is official distribution of the episode with a little backing from NBC and some ads, this is the closest we've gotten to MST being on "regular TV" since SCI-FI stopped airing reruns. Thoughts?

Never heard of Hulu until now. Certainly the exposure can't hurt.

The exposure should be a good thing, and could bring in new fans.

One small detail: Film Crew's Hollywood After Dark is filed under Hulu's movie section. The best part is that people are already asking about having episodes of MST3k added rather than the other Film Crew DVDs. And I don't blame them.

I'll take whatever I can get if Mike, Kevin, and Bill are involved. Considering there are over 170 episodes of MST3K and only three other Film Crew releases, I don't mind them posting the rest of TFC first. Plus all the Film Crew movies are public domain, so there shouldn't be a problem posting them. Can't say the same for MST3K, unfortunately.

Yeah, I discovered Hulu when I was looking for episodes of St. Elsewhere. They have only the first season, though. Its a pretty decent site with a good selection of TV shows. I'm glad TFC is getting some exposure.

Would Hulu's future posting of MST3k episodes step on Shout Factory's toes? Or would it be more like Youtube (although of more certain legality), where they could do what they want as long as they have the rights? I guess what I'm asking is, would Shout Factory have the exclusive rights to show episodes since they're releasing DVDs, or could other distributors pay Best Brains for rights as well?

The original press release from Shout Factory said this:
So it sounds like that Shout Factory is in charge of where and how digital episodes would be released.

Shout Factory has the digital distribution rights to MST3K and The Film Crew. I'm guessing Shout soon plans to release the other Film Crew titles on Hulu, and then follow that up with some MST3K episodes featuring films they have the rights to.

Okay, thanks. I always forget Shout Factory has the Film Crew episodes, so I wasn't thinking of any comparisons between Hollywood After Dark and MST3k on Hulu.

Above everything, Hulu is a commercial venture. The more popular a single episode is, the better the commercial revenue that single episode gets. Now, that is precise marketing and 90 minute episodes are very big targets for commercials. To be blunt, MST3k is far more likely to get on Hulu then it would ever make it back to proper TV. I wouldn't be surprised to see one or two of the public domain episodes up first to test the commercial waters. If anything, a straight to DVD project like Hollywood After Dark being streamed is far stranger than any single MST3k episode{Well, ok, the Godzilla episodes are exceptions. And probably the Gameras as well}.

I've only seen TFC's Three Stooges in Color before this. It was a very nice surprise to find it there. I saw it and I loved it.
