This isn't that good of an episode really. The host segments are okay. But the riffing, for the first hour is pretty bland. Things don't pick up until the eye creature first appears.
It also annoys me how Josh/Servo keeps saying what's going to happen in the film.

Haven't seen this one yet. I watched the actual movie before when I was a kid...it was on the Scifi channel or something.

It's one of my favorites. Not just because it was the first, but because it was such a fun movie. A perfect rainy Saturday episode.

I love it, too. It has Peter Graves, cheesy monsters, and a ridiculous premise!

It has Peter Graves? Where?
It's important to see because it's the first network episode and there are a lot of ensuing jokes through the years that are call backs to it. The film itself, however, is bland and boring. Also, Forrest Tucker is way too doughy and unattractive to be any film's hero.

I don't think Peter Graves is in it. The Crawling Eye is a British B-movie originally entitled The Trollenberg Terror: www.imdb.com/title/tt0052320/It recently featured in a great documentary by the BBC about British B-movies and what can be learned about British society at the time of their making. It was only in it briefly but still fun to spot it. I'm sure a few other of the British films mistied were in it too. As for the episode, it's important and one of the best of Season 1 but overall it's really pretty average. Movie's a lot of fun though, which is more than can be said for pretty much all the others used in the first half of that season.

I bought the whole series last summer, and The Crawling Eye was the first episode I watched. I was exited, it was the first Season 1 episode I'd seen, but my exitement quickly turned to disappointment. It just wasn't as funny as the other episodes I'd seen. My sisters were watching it with men and normally when we watch an MST together we laugh like crazy and quote riffs and lines from the movie. This time we just sat there almost in silence. One of my sisters even left half way through. Maybe if I watch it again I'll find it funnier and like it better, but for now my opinion stands at below average.

Never saw this ep, but now I think I am going to track it down. I have wanted to see The Trollenberg Terror since I read it was a loose inspiration for John Carpenter's The Fog (which I would now call a bonnafide horror classic). So, ya know, two birds with one stone: see a new MST ep, and catch a flick I have been looking for, all in one.

I like it but I can't vote because there's a lot of ground between "One of the best" and "It's average."

I haven't watched it in quite a while, but the impression it gave me on my previous viewing was that I could take it or leave it. I find the host segments to be the most interesting parts, though the movie and riffing aren't too bad as far as the first season go.
Not nearly my favorite first season episode in terms movie and riffing though. That honor goes to Robot Holocaust or Moon Zero Two for me.

It has Peter Graves? Where? Also, Forrest Tucker is way too doughy and unattractive to be any film's hero. Oops, I'm wrong. I "saw" Peter Grave's face on Forrest Tucker's body for some reason. I still really like the ep, and the movie. I would watch that movie alone.

Oops, I'm wrong. I "saw" Peter Grave's face on Forrest Tucker's body for some reason. I suppose that's an improvement.
