More bad news. I really like the Shaft soundtrack and thought he was hilarious in I'm Gonna Git You Sucka. And of course, he was great as Chef.
Rest well, sir.

Farewell Black Moses of Soul. Your music was an important part of my youth.

May he be aboard the mother ship half an hour before Xenu knows he's dead.

I knew there would be a thread about this here. This sucks. He provided MST3K with some of its best joke material: 'Theme from Shaft'. I don't think there isn't an episode that doesn't reference it at least once, the most popular being Mitchell.

Sigh... didn't we just do this?
Okay, talented celebrities, listen up: STOP DYING. Do you think talented performers who make long lasting classic contributions to the popular culture just grow on trees? No! It's making me angry and sad!
And again--R.I.P Mr. Hayes. May the pop waters part for you.

Meant to weigh in on this yesterday. "Hot Buttered Soul" is one of the greatest soul albums of all-time, top 5, easy.
I met him on several occasions, he used to come into the record store I worked in back at home (Memphis). He was a genuinely nice man.

I remember first buying the soundtrack to "Shaft" back junior year of high school and, damn, we all had some great times cruising, listening to that funky cut.
RIP Mr. Hayes! And thank you for providing the soundtrack to many great memories as well!

This thread certainly isn't dead. It keeps moving from thread to thread. Or did I inhale too many copier fumes today?
And, as a tribute to Mr. Hayes, I listed to Chef's Best, the South Park cd.

Wack-a-cha, wack-a-cha, wack-a-cha!
Hey, I'm just talkin' 'bout Hayes. Isaac Hayes.
The Black Moses of Soul has left the building.
Good-bye, Chef.
Damn.
