An aside: I think Joel, Josh and Trace should get barstools or something. I feel sorry for them having to stand for that long (I'm in Joel's age bracket and have sympathy pains. ) Well, strictly speaking, they aren't standing that long...they don't do the entire movie in one long take, so I would imagine that the standing CT crew probably get a chance to move their legs a bit, thanks to CT's video wizardry. I think this is going to be excellent, they'll be able to riff with more freedom than they had back in the old television "standards & practices" days...maybe not outright dirty, but a little more 'adult'. That nipples joke killed me, can't wait to see the whole thing! Like T, P, MJ? said, it'll be a great addition to the other holiday MST-y canon. ;D

I have a slight problem with this choice. This is already my best loved MST3K episode ever because it was the first full episode I ever saw and hooked me on the series for life!
Will I be hearing the new riffs but thinking of the old ones while I watch? I'm not sure what will happen.
I will buy it and I will watch it because I am interested in seeing the deleted footage and what will be different this time around, but I have some reservations about if I am going to really enjoy it or not. Maybe I'm worried about nothing.

I don't see a point for doing this flick again... but I gave the trailer a chance.
Didn't find any of it funny.

After watching the trailer I’m really looking forward to this now! That was all kinds of funny.

I love the idea, and can hardly wait.
What's wrong with revisiting films MST3K did? They'd like another whack at it -- so would I.

What's wrong with revisiting films MST3K did? They'd like another whack at it -- so would I. Because remakes are lame. They could have done other awful PD Christmas films like Ice Cream Bunny, or Christmas Evil, and it would have been awesome. Instead we're getting conquers the martians again which isn't very exciting to me.

Because remakes are lame. ...excepting MST3k season 3 remakes or remakes that turn out to be pretty good such as JC's The Thing or The Maltese Falcon. Since Santa Clause Conquers the Martians could belong to both categories, I would not judge it as being "good", "bad" or "lame" until I see it.

Sure, if it somehow became a regular thing for CT to redo movies used on MST, I'd have a problem with it. For a one-time experiment, I really don't have a problem with it. The riffing is more important than the films, to me at least, so I'm not really disappointed in seeing this movie used again.

What I would really like to see is a remake of Robot Holocaust from the first season. That would be groovy.

Someone told me this was being released today but I found no mention on their site. Anyone know the release date?

I just bought mine! I can't wait to see how they handle it.
I think of this as reinventing their catalogue. Add this experiment to their constant touring, just think of it as a group of entertainers changing their arrangements. Bob Dylan does this with his songs, some like it, some don't. But you can't say they are resting on their laurels.
They're recognized experts in their field. It's cool that they're playing with the format.
Well, enough preaching, I'm just excited for a new CT release!
