I was a little underwhelmed by this one. It seemed like a step back from the last two releases. Not to say there weren't some very funny riffs in it, but there were some dull patches too. Plus the movie may rival Doomsday Machine as the worst film they've used so far IMO.

I watched it again and it was better this time out. I still found more dead zones than usual and I wouldn't rank it ahead of their last 2 releases, but when they nailed a joke it was dead center clever, cute and funny. My review... Frank's CoFNice review MJ. I'm curious...how do you know which material was written by Josh? I thought I read somewhere that CT worked the same way as MST3K - they all submit jokes to the mix and lines get assigned to whoever - that they don't necessarily deliver their own jokes. Can anyone verify that?

"This totally reminds me of my last day at MST" Samtaco, That was the best line in the show. It made me roll my eyes. I thought it felt forced. But then I think most of their jokes feel forced.

Yeah, I was feeling underwhelmed myself. I thought that I might have set my expectations too high since I like the movie so much, so I'm kind of relieved to see that others feel the same way. There were a lot of dead zones and the funny moments produced more smiles than laughs. And, the "Breast Blimp" probably sounded better on paper than it looked on the screen. I understand why it was there, but it just didn't work for me. Maybe they would have been better off just having random things get in the way of the shot (like malfunctioning equipment, a fly landing on the projector lens, etc)? So far, I think CT has turned out 3 gems (Wasp Woman, Oozing Skull, and Santa Claus), 2 "averages" (Frankenstein and Legacy of Blood), and one dud (Doomsday Machine).

J. Elvis Weinstein has posted a comment in the thread about the "Blimp of Modesty" (or "Breast Blimp," if you prefer) over at the CT forums. Check it out!

Can anyone verify that? I've never heard anything about how they assign riffs but I know they don't write in the same room ala MST3K. I guess they could be assigning riffs randomly but they sure all seem to have their own vibe. Josh seems to voice the edgier stuff, Joel more the laid back, idiosyncratic, pop culture quips etc... So far, I think CT has turned out 3 gems (Wasp Woman, Oozing Skull, and Santa Claus), 2 "averages" (Frankenstein and Legacy of Blood), and one dud (Doomsday Machine). For me it's 2 tiered... The upper level: Oozing Skull, Doomsday, Legacy, Santa A little lower: Wasp & Frankenstein "This totally reminds me of my last day at MST" Samtaco, That was the best line in the show. It made me roll my eyes. I thought it felt forced. But then I think most of their jokes feel forced. Bob your sounding like a broken record, don't you have anything new to add to this forum or is this all your going to do? I know, I know, your gonna grumble at me and yes you have the right to post this same opinion over and over whenever you want, as often as you want on as many threads as you want. But on the serious my friend, you're like a dog chewing a bone.

Kinda interesting. I didn't even think much of it at the time, although I do agree it wasn't particularly funny. At the same time, I don't really care about seeing breasts in my bad Frankenstein movie. So the blimp was non-issue to me. I'm surprised to see anyone was up in arms about it. Awww…don't get angry with Bob. He's always polite about his criticisms and there ought to be room for that on this forum. Why read 'em if they upset you? It's always easier to censor yourself rather than someone else IMO. No offense intended.

Oh I'm not angry, and it's NOT about people expressing a criticism (Hell, I critisized this release myself and I was enjoying the well rounded talk on this thread). I'm just asking if he's got anything different to add. It's the same thing over and over and over and over again on each and every thread. Polite or not it's getting old. It would be like me going on the Beatles forum and posting how much I dislike Ringo's singing on each and every thread. After a while, what's the point. We all get it and we got it a long long time ago. Again, not angry -very mellow- I'm just trying to understand the mindset.

I didn't think the riffs on this one were as good as the last two, but I did notice a significant improvement in the delivery of said riffs. I heard more interaction between the riffers, and more riffs that played off each other, than I remember hearing on any of their other releases. At times it felt more like MST3K than any other release so far. For me, at least.
And the movie wasn't bad either. Certainly not as disturbing as Legacy of Blood, or as poorly made as Blood of the Vampires or Doomsday Machine.
And I can understand why people have mentioned dead spots in this one. The riffing did feel sparser, even though there were a lot of big laughs.
Loved Trace's (IIRC) callback to Posture Pals.

Just to confirm on the writing issue.
When I spoke to RAD at the CT live show in Chicago he told me that the performers don't always deliver their own lines. They all write seperate scripts, but then they "line-assign" based on whose personality and delivery best suits the joke.

I'm of the opinion that FCoF was quite good, but not their best. My faves are Wasp Woman and Legacy of Blood. Seems a lot of folks in this thread have a higher opinion of Oozing Skull than I do.

Funny (and wise) review, I enjoyed reading it. My 2 cents on the blimp. I don't mind that they did it (not that I'm adverse to nudity) I think it can be a funny gag, as it was when Joel pulled out the umbrella during City Limits. But I felt the execution was lacking. It just floats in and out and nothing hilarious came out of it. And not seeing nudity can be hysterical (Was it Soultaker where Crow thought he missed out? That was a riot) If your going to deprive me of skin at least give me a gigantic laugh in return, yeesh!

i was surprised to see so many didn't think this was one of their better efforts, when i thoroughly enjoyed it. the story was absolutely ridiculous - i found it funny that no one in the movie thought it was odd that cavemen were still thriving in victorian times. so you go from that, to a guy wearing jeans? it was so bizarre - how could they pass it up? there were gaps in the riffing- well, of course there were gaps. it's unrealistic to expect non-stop riffing. you have to give the movie time to establish characters, plot (what there was), etc. i thought the titans were really on their game with this one. i don't care who wrote what - which riff belongs to which riffer - none of that matters to me. i'm a simple monkey that just wants to enjoy the experience without bogging myself down with a lot of details that don't matter in the long run. and i think this one had maybe the funniest break in the film, when trace tried to vocalize his thoughts on frankenstein. and josh's riff about his last day at mst cracked me up. as far as the breast blimp goes - i'm not a fan. i found it distracting. i could see their intention with it, but i hope they will decide not to use it in the future. i don't see what the big deal is in leaving the breasts in, but i know a lot of you fans have kids and they want to keep it kid friendly. but if they can use mild cursing, i don't see how a woman's rack is going to cause irreversible damage to a kid's mind. hell, they see worse on their video games, i would imagine. that's just my opinion - i don't really care either way if they take out nudity or leave the swear words in. i'll still watch it.
