I haven't been to a comic con in decades, but I went to one recently simply to meet the man himself.
That's right, I met Stan Lee! Woo Hoo! (He was very cool, personable. He's the most spry, sharp minded 91-year-old man I've ever met)
Also William Shatner walked right by me as he was going to his autograph table.
Most of my time at the con was spent standing in lines... hours and hours in lines. I was swapping texts with my brother, so that helped pass the time. Plus, I'm more a comic reader than collector, so while I looked around at the booths, I didn't do any shopping (I read most of the old comics digitally now, saves a lot of money). The TV Batmobile was there, that was cool. There were folks in costume (a lot of women dressed up as Thor) and some panels. But for me it was all about Stan. That was why I was there.
I had my picture taken with him (but my right eye drooped, so I look like I'm having a stroke). I also had him autograph an old issue of Iron Man I had from 1967 that he wrote. All in all a fun, but exhausting night.

So remember when I was talking about the Night Stalker? Well guess what fresh hell I just discovered? That's right, this idiot wants to do a remake. Sad thing is, I used to like Johnny Depp, a lot. But he's become a self parody, bringing his usual bag of tricks and tics to soil the memories of good things, like Willy Wonka and Dark Shadows. And maybe as Tonto in the Lone Ranger (I haven't seen it). He's become the poster boy for "Oh poopie, why are they remaking that with him?" Edgar Wright is set to direct. He's popular with fans and critics... but not with me. I don't care for his work. Plus he does comedy. So the chance that old Kolchak will be treated with respect is slim to none. It could be worse, Green Hornet was brought to the big screen with a bigger idiot in the lead role. So I could only imagine the horror of, oh say a Michael Bay adaptation with stammering Shia LaBeouf playing Carl Kolchak? Jesus wept.

wow. johnny depp is an enigma to me - i think he has talent and is capable of playing really good roles...but he keeps doing crap films. i'd hold it against him, but he's such a gosh darned beautiful man. but he can't be that hard up for money. i wish he'd take a few years off and then come back and do a serious role from a director other than burton.

SNLs been mostly misses than hits this season (first show was, blech), but Jim Carey hosted last week and it picked up a bit. The biggest laughs I've gotten all season came from his riff on those Lincoln Commercials, they killed me...

It's not Wednesday, and I missed posting anything about comics. But I thought I'd share 2 of my favorite covers anyway... Mike del Mundo draws Mardi Gras. Very festive. And I like this Catwoman Halloween variant. Just like Charlie Brown, Selina got some rocks... the shiny kind.

^love the color in that. nicely put together. SNLs been mostly misses than hits this season (first show was, blech), but Jim Carey hosted last week and it picked up a bit. The biggest laughs I've gotten all season came from his riff on those Lincoln Commercials, they killed me... those spots they put together for that was the funniest part of the whole show, imo. i'm not a huge carey fan, so i don't know if that influenced me or not. but those were pretty funny.

I know I can't be the only MST3K fan who cracked up with laughter during the trailer for the "Exodus: Gods and Kings" movie - when the King cries out....
"I'm The God, I'M THE GOD!"
I wish I had mad Youtube skills, because I'd make a vid with that scene, side by side with all the "I'm The God" clips from MST3K (as well as the Twilight Zone" ep, the Little People, from whence it originated)

Yes, I also laughed at that. I'm wondering if Moses this time will also "Proclaim liberty throughout the land!" By the way, I don't remember if the TV trailer ever mentioned Moses by name. It looks like they're trying to advertise it like it's a 300 or The Scorpion King type of movie. "Moses is back! And this time he's pissed!"

I'm just hoping Christian Bale will do his Batman growl when he tell's Ramses to... "Let my people go!"

^ Funny, I was watching Jungle Goddess and there's an "I'm the GOD!" in there.... I think I laughed even more at the riff. Oh, and FYI... Jet Jaguar don't take sh*t from nobody! That was the headline for a posting at comic vine, which shows off pages from Jet's comic debut (in this particular series). Check it out here... NoSh*tLinkI just read that issue of Godzilla: Rulers of Earth and when Jet showed up I had to laugh. Good comic BTW, though the art in Jet's ish was too cramped. Too many close ups. I want to actually SEE my monsters fight when they fight.

Not just fat, but ENORMOUSLY fat! Those bastards! There was once an overweight Amazon in the pages of Wonder Woman. They called he "Fatsis". These scenes just fascinate me and makes me wonder about our world then and now. I also wonder, why would Fatsis' parents name her Fatsis? And wouldn't it be an interesting world if we all named our children after their physical traits. I imagine it would be like living in a Dick Tracy comic strip. I'd sure hate to be the kid called "Small Wienersis", or "Smells Like Assicus" I wonder what ever became of Fatsis? I never see her fighting along side her sisters in glorious battle in today's comics? How did she feel being the only big girl on an Island of super models who referred to her to a "Grease Heap?" Words hurt you know. These are the kind of thoughts that keep me awake at night.
