As a Pen fan, you can't NOT like Crosby. For all the hype, he is damn talented and stuff. Pretty much, he's worth nearly all that hype, unlike Steve Stamkos this year. $8.7 million is a lot, but on the other hand, there's only one Sidney Crosby and we have him. And we have Geno at $8.7 starting next year .That's a ton on two players, but it's Sid and Geno... if you're gonna spend 17.5 mil on two, might ast well be those two. That said, the only thing we lost in the five that left this summer (well besides Hossa, who we were going to sign until he dumped us at the last minute) was some grit. We need that grit back but Geno/Sid>>>>>> grit. Pens fans and critics agree it's not so much a loss of the four over the summer (really, it wasn't that major of a loss. Ryan Malone is an awesome guy and all, but not at 4.5 a year.) It's a combo of injuries, coaching, and egos. People in Pittsburgh are ready to riot against the coach. The only thing Pens fans are mad about concerning the trades this summer was the pickup of Miroslav Satan. He and Therrien and Yeo are about to be run out of Pittsburgh. I agree that I wish the media would back off of Crosby and let im prove his thing, at least to shut up some of the people from other teams a bit. But yeah, I don't blame you one bit for not drinking the kool-aid. I've had a sip and it's okay, but I prefer the cool flavour of Petr Sykora personally

I've stayed away from the hockey thread for some time. My Canes are mediocre in every sense of the word. Win a few, lose a few. Look good a game or two, totally suck a game or two. I'm still watching them all and it's killing me. I bailed out after the Senators went up 3-1 last night. Final score 5-1. Lost to the Senators! They've barely won a game in weeks.

You took the words right out of my mouth, sky. As much as I love my 'Canes, they are depressingly mediocre right now. A HAIR better than earlier this year under Laviolette, but my goodness, I almost wish they'd start losing more so that the wins would feel more significant! (Or at least, the losing net us a better draft pick than a just-barely-missed-the-playoff seeding would) ALMOST. I'm not that desparate yet. But it's getting harder and harder to watch a team so capable of great things and yet achieving so little.

Columbus looks like they have it together finally. Maybe they can actually make the playoffs for the first time ever. I still think they'll find a way to fail but for the time being they look good.

^^Steve Mason is a god among goalies.
Any one excited for the all-star game next weekend? Really I only look forward to the skills competition though I will be watching both.

All-Star games of any sport don't really do anything for me. I avoid them all.

Yep, going to the Pens game tonight against the Rangers. I'm feeling a loss, since that's all the Pens do when I go to see them.

Canes are 4-2 since the break. Hopefully they will be able to maintain that pace and slide into the playoffs.

The Pens... well at least they won that Rangers game I went to! It was an awesome game!
Win or lose, I still love them. As long as they don't pull any super boneheaded moves.

That's just wrong. The Pens went to the Stanley Cup Finals last season.

Glen Wesley's number was retired tonight. Very nice ceremony for a classy player. When they won the Stanley Cup, Wesley brought it down to bar about five miles from my home. Too bad I had quit hanging out in bars by then.
Canes lost the game to the Bruins 5-1. Closer than the score but there is no time left for moral victories in this season for us. Unless something dramatic happens it appears we are out of the playoffs for the third season in a row since winning the Cup.

That's just wrong. The Pens went to the Stanley Cup Finals last season. Yeah and compare Therrien to Babcock during the Finals last year. it was pathetic. Therrien is great when a team is up and coming, needs discipline and a system put in place. But as soon as that system is in place and the players are ready for the next step, Therrien is useless. Hence why he got fired. Pens nation was waiting for this moment since December.

I read a bit online about what Pierre Trudeau is talking about. Seems he isn''t the only one to think Therrien no longer fit the situation.
