Tim and Eric's Bedtime Stories
T , E, and their bro are forced to live in a haunted house to collect their 1,000 inheritances. Part homage to the Three Stooges, part musical, all Tim and Eric. Great job!

Finally got around to the first two episodes of House of Cards. It exceeded my wildest expectations, and if the rest of season one is as good, I really think I'm going to love it.

Almost through all 3 seasons of "Deadwood." Took me a bit to warm to it, but now I absolutely love it. Great writing, David Milch!

The Walshes So I don't how many of you are familiar with Graham Linehan (Father Ted, Big Train, Black Books, The IT Crowd), but he's such a personal favorite of mine. I've been searching (in vain) for more RTE Irish comedies, but they seem few and far between.

Almost through all 3 seasons of "Deadwood." Took me a bit to warm to it, but now I absolutely love it. Great writing, David Milch! I'm a little late, but I agree about Deadwood. What a beautifully written show dialog-wise, if nothing else. I could listen to Ian McShane talk to a head in a box for hours. If only it had gotten a proper ending. HBO blew it badly not giving that show a chance to finish. Speaking of which, just watched "The End," the series finale of Lost, for the first time since broadcast. Watched it with a buddy who I've slowly led through the complete series over the course of a couple of years. I thought it was very good the first time I saw it, but understood the 50/50 backlash. This time it blew me away, probably because of my buddy's reaction. He had enjoyed the series, but like many others became frustrated with it now and then. When we started the episode his attitude was very much, "this has been fun, but let's get it over with." Two hours later and there isn't a dry eye in the house. The "awakening" scenes were particularly powerful this time around. And for some reason, Kate talking to Jack after she "remembers" but before he has is just beautiful. I've gone from avid supporter of the finale to full-blown fan. What a great experience.

Been miserable for about a month due to too many doctors visits. I needed a pick-me-up. What's the best feel good media I have. I could have watched a Frank Capra movie but I opted for something I haven't seen in a while...My Name is Earl. Just finished the first season today...I still love the poopie out of this show. Hasn't aged a bit. Still really funny, well acted, brilliantly written, and damnit it just feels like welcoming back old friends that I lost touch with.
And you remember that feeling you get every time the guest character smiled at Earl and told him "You can cross me off your list."? Rediscovering that all over again just made me feel a whole lot better.

You were probably in mourning, trying to forget the show existed to make the pain of cancelation go away. I remember when the fourth season came out, I left it in the wrapper for about a year because it felt like if I did it would be admitting to myself that the show was gone. Then finally the following year I said to myself "It's time" and watched the entire series from beginning to end. The cancelation was unjust, but I felt a whole lot better when I just let it go and just treasure the laughs I had.
The DVDs are probably cheap now. The show will be a decade old next year.
God...has it really been that long?!?!

That's probably true, it was hard for me to enjoy Earl again after the way it all ended, or maybe the fact that it didn't. Like I was saying about Lost, Earl is one of those shows that didn't even have a chance to close out the story. Give them a season knowing it's the last one. It was such a well-written show I'd love to know what they would have done with it. Dammit, I know it would have been good. The cancelation was unjust, but I felt a whole lot better when I just let it go and just treasure the laughs I had. I just rewatched the finale of Lost, and you're telling me the secret to really enjoying Earl again is to "let go?" You're killing me, Torgo.

"Let go" in relation to attatchment of the series. I still resent NBC and probably always will. Hell I refused to watch the station until Steve Carrell's final season of the Office (I just caught up with it on DVD until then). What happened with the series was unprofessional with the way the network head scolded the fans for not supporting the show when it was on the chopping block, even though NBC never let the fans know the show was in trouble, and backing Chuck which was getting lower ratings but louder fans who knew the ratings were low. Not to mention burning bridges with Greg Garcia and Ethan Suplee, who also disapproved of NBC's actions and were very vocal about it.
Yeah that's my mini-rant about Earl's cancelation. It doesn't matter now. I heard Jason Lee was looking to get a TV/video movie made, but I don't think anything came of that. But after that Veronica Mars movie Kickstarter, there's always hope I suppose. I've been wondering how Greg Garcia would do with a Kickstarter now that Raising Hope is over. It might get a fair share of money in its direction.
Though Garcia did tell how he intended the series to end: with Earl meeting a man with a list of his own that was inspired by Earl's. Earl would have taken it as a sign that Karma has freed him from his List and would feel he has finally become a good man. Now adays I just kind of imagine that finale, because it really is a good ending.

That's what I meant, too. It's a Lost finale thing, I'll shut up about it all now I remember Suplee and his Twitter fight to keep it going. It was brilliance while it lasted, but yeah, I just need to take it in again. I used to see it in syndication but sporadically. I would watch reruns if they were on consistently. Buying the DVDs are the obvious choice here, and thinking back to the best moments of the show I know they'd hold up. Yes, that's a fantastic idea for a finale. Hell, make Earl be on that guy's list! There was a ton of potential there.

I think the intention was Earl would be on his list. I'd have to find the quote again to make sure, but that was the basic gist of it.
I think it would be an interesting ending to build up to. Maybe in the penultimate episode they could have destroyed the list (don't know how...maybe Joy was pissed at him and made Randy eat it) and left Earl lost as to where to go. Then the ending comes and lets Earl know he has good Karma and shouldn't worry about it anymore.
And I can just picture that final shot of the series: Earl kicking back with a beer with Randy and Catalina at the Crabshack, a smile on his face and his eyebrow arched knowing that everything is going to be okay. Then cut to a scene of Joy having Karma pay her back.

drunk history - comedy central - tuesdays at 10pm last night was the season premiere - i love this show and it was a good one. the drunker the person telling the story is, the better. sometimes they aren't wasted enough for me. last night's show took place in montgomery, alabama. the stories were about claudette colvin, the real first black woman to be arrested for not giving her seat up on a bus for a white woman, prior to rosa parks. then the story of percy julian, a black chemist and the fights between joe louis and max schmelling. among the actors that did the reenactment of the stories was al yankovic as adolf hitler. other people that have been parts of the reenactments: adam scott, will forte, jack black (best elvis ever), dave grohl, fred willard, crispin glover, bill hader, winona ryder, will ferrell, don cheadle, lisa bonet, kristin wiig, nick offerman, michael cera and a bunch more i can't think of. if i could have learned history this way as a kid, i would be a straight up historian by now.

There was a ton of potential there. i would have chimed in on this earl discussion if i had paid more attention and saw that it was going on. i know i'm late to the party, but i highly recommend getting the dvds's, mod. i have all of them, and i break them out about once a year and go through all of them. i always get tense when i know i'm at the last episode (similar to how i feel when i start watching danger! diabolik). i read somewhere online - they guy claims he figured out how crabman wasn't the father of earl jr. - there was an episode somewhere, i forget which one, where darnell said that his dna had been changed by the government when he was a secret agent. that he really was the father of earl jr.. i don't know. i hate to think about how earl got screwed by nbc, too. what a way to end the last episode. it was a brilliant show - they could have gone on endlessly with that genius storyline of earl's list. a guy i work with says he loved the show but didn't like the shows when earl was in prison. it was different, but i find they could be just as funny as earl-on-the-outside. but yeah, i preferred it when it was just a list story, not the prison thing, the billie thing or joy & darnell having to change their identity. i remember hearing talk of a possible movie shortly after it was cancelled. i don't know why another network didn't pick it up when they saw the outrage of the loyal fans. it was one of the funniest shows i've ever seen and could be very sweet as well. it also had a great soundtrack.
