Dinner for Schmucks: Very funny, probably Steve Carell's best movie. . I thought steve carell was the UNfunniest part of this movie. I grew immediately tired of his confused uber-nerd character and had to then labor through it the rest of the movie. the rest of the movie was fine however although even the movie as a whole got tiresome about 3/4 of the way through. I give it a grading of C to be generous

Fear In The Night. A pretty good 1940's noir thriller starring a young DeForest Kelley. Some of you might be familiar with the 1956 remake, Nightmare. I actually prefer this version. Caine (a.k.a. Shark). Not one of Samuel Fuller's better efforts. Starring Burt Reynolds as Caine, a gun smuggler turned treasure-hunting diver. Has some cool underwater sequences but that's about it. There was apparently some controversy when this film came out in 1969, due to an incident during the filming of the shark scenes in which a stuntman was killed.

"Angels and Demons"
I've enjoyed Dan Brown's books, so I was distracted by the changes made to the movie. The Assassin was bland, Vittoria's father being changed to just a research partner took away emotional investment, and downplaying the church vs. science theme took away the core of the story.
"Zombieland"
I'm not really into zombie movies, but I'd heard how funny this was, and I wasn't disappointed.

I give it a grading of C to be generous I must respectfully disagree with you. To me, Steve and Zach Galifanakis (sp?) were the *Funniest* parts of the movie. Steve, I suppose, is just an acquired taste, or is in the realm of "either you like him or don't".

Kick-Ass This is the 3rd time I’ve seen (twice in theaters, once on IMAX) so obviously it’s a flick I dig. Saying that, it didn’t work as well on a home viewing. For me there are pictures that are better in theaters. I feed off the audiences energy, their laughter, the Oooos and Ahs. Kick-Ass was a better big screen experience than a home blu-ray one.
The Assassin Next Door When I saw the cover I thought, “Cool, an Olga Kurylenko action flick”. Uh, no, this is a “Blah, two beaten women bonding flick”. There’s more scenes of them sitting on the bus gabbing than any gunplay. It’s a cheap looking movie too - bad sound, bad cinematography. When you make Olga look bad it’s time to fire your cameraman. Take my advice, save your cash, save your time… avoid this like the plague

Piranha 3-D. Much gorier than the 1978 film, the piranha were pretty menacing and nasty. Still had some good campy fun and lots of spring break partying. The 3-D especially in the underwater scenes, was really cool looking. Richard Dreyfuss has a cameo which is fun as well. Recommended.

Spring Break Shark Attack (2005)
More spring breaking than shark attacking. After I saw their poor excuse for a shark, I knew why. Most egregious error was the mountains clearly in view in a movie supposedly set in Florida. Not too hard to watch but there are much bettor or worse shark flicks to be found.

Battle of the Godfathers (1973)
Henry Silva stars in this violent mafia-crime movie about dueling mafiosos. Some really good action scenes including a great speed boat chase. Good, not so clean fun!

The 3-D especially in the underwater scenes, was really cool looking. Richard Dreyfuss has a cameo which is fun as well. Recommended. My friends and I walked out after about 30 minutes. Didn't even get to see Christopher Lloyd. Valhalla Rising- This movie is very much an art house horror movie. I'd kind of explain it as being Terrence Mallick by way of Ingmar Bergman. You should pretty much know if you want to see it of not from that. It has all the trademarks of a Mallick film: the spare storytelling, beautiful, haunting cinematography (which will undoubtedly be nominated for an Oscar), the long periods of total silence; but it also has Bergman's trademarks such as an atmosphere so dark and thick that it's almost crushing and substance and symbolism heavy storytelling. The story concerns a nameless, one-eyed viking (Maads Mikkelson) escaping captivity. He is motivated only by hate and is a fearsome, formidable warrior. He never speaks throughout the film, and yet is singularly unforgettable, thanks to brilliant performance my Mikkelson, who can strike fear into your heart with nothing more than a sideways glance. He runs into a group of Christians bound for the Crusades, and joins them, though neither side can really trust each other. They are thrown off course, and are stranded on a strange, unknown land where they are are picked off one by one by natives hiding in the forest. Naturally, everybody starts going insane- everybody, that is, except for Mikkelson, who remains eerily calm. The others begin to suspect that Mikkelson is from Hell, and has led them here to their deaths. Valhalla Rising is heavy, dark, brutally graphic, disturbing, and absolutely brilliant. The dissonant soundtrack fits perfectly into the dire, grim mood of the film, and the film itself is suspenseful and, in its own little way, terrifying. Strangely enough, I though the long periods of total silence are some of the best parts, adding to the suspense in ways that dialogue never could. This is gripping cinema, but hardly mainstream fair. This is very much an art house movie, and I'll bet that a lot of people aren't going to like the spare story and long periods of nothing. However, it's definitely worth seeing just to see a very different take on an old story (the vengeance-bent one-man army.) You're certainly going to have to decide for yourself whether or not you like this movie, but I personally thought it was fantastic. Kick Ass- Best. Superhero. Movie. Ever. Imagine if Watchmen were a comedy, and you've pretty much got this movie. It's cynical, anarchistic, brutal, and simply awesome. If you haven't seen this movie, watch it. Now.

Weird World of LSD 1967
Some of what I learned from this movie:
LSD makes hot women dance. LSD makes men flap their arms like chickens. LSD makes men and women cut each other with knives. LSD helps the insecure feel better about themselves. LSD creates lounge jazz music with noodling sax solos. LSD causes cat fights. LSD pushers don't use the stuff themselves.
Favorite newspaper headline: "LSD USER COMMITS SUICIDE." It was the lead story over "Panic in New York." Entire movie done in voice-over with a narrator who takes occasional long breaks. I don't blame him. I needed a few.
