"Battle Royale" One of my favorite movies. A Japanese high school class is transported to an island and forced to kill each other. The last film by Kinji Fukasaku ("The Green Slime") and one of his best, and Beat Takeshi is typically awesome as the teacher. Just got through with this one and greatly enjoyed it.

Devil. This the first M. Night Shymalan movie that I've liked. It's truly creepy and claustrophobic. A group of people are trapped in an elevator with the Devil. Highly recommended.

My recent accidental discovery of the movie Moontrap made me hungry for some Bruce Campbell so I looked up a bunch of stuff with him in it. Starting with these two: Alien Apocalypse. Eh, it's watchable. None of it is very memorable though. You can guess the plot, aliens invaded earth, enslaved the human race, blah blah, we've all heard it before. Apart from Campbell, who's rarely dull to watch, the writing and acting is just mindnumbing. The effects are pretty decent though. Overall, worth a watch, if you're a hardcore Bruce-a-holic. Assault on Dome 4. Another TV-movie, this time starring Campbell in one of his funniest roles IMO: a mad terrorist! I didn't have to fight to stay awake with this one. While it drags a little here and there, it's a very entertaining flick with plenty of one-liners and bizarre characters (such as "Mellow", played by Eraserhead Jack Nance). Recommended, if you can find a copy. This movie is also known as Chase Moran or just Dome 4 in some countries. I also watched Kalifornia, something a bit different. A friend of mine told me to watch this and I was looking forward to it after listening to him rant about it (this is like one of his favorite films). I thought it was pretty mediocre. The plot was predictable. I didn't like the stereotypical characters. David Duchovny is doing his "Mulder" (from TV's The X-Files) routine throughout the whole thing and man, is he ever boring to watch. The guy just puts me to sleep. The rest of the cast did a passable job but this certainly isn't a movie that's gonna stay in my memory for very long (as in, longer than 5 minutes after the credits roll).

Easy A It's not bad, kind of a homage to John Hughes. It's too cute and clever for it's own good at the start (especially the parents, god they irritated me with their practiced banter), and I have a hard time believing any teens would really care or ostracize another over their loss of virginity, but once it settled in, it was a decent enough flick. Emma Stone has a cute personality. I liked her a lot.

Hard Hunted
Another Andy Sidaris film with lots of hot women, nudity, sex, explosions, and very little story to hinder all of the aforementioned elements. Some sort of nuclear detonator is hidden in a jade Buddha statue and a wealthy smuggler wants it to sell on the black market for big bucks. There's a cool mini-helicopter piloted by a bad guy named Raven, played by very familiar character villain Al Leong. You'll know him when you see him. A couple doofuses try to pull off a drive-by in a mini-hovercraft as well. Add to that the hot women getting nude for no reason but to keep you awake and you have a fun B-movie time waster.
Fit to Kill
Another Sidaris D-cup B-movie that I had no idea was the sequel to the above mentioned film. Everybody's back in Hawaii, including tall and luscious Julie Strain as a smokin' hot assassin. This time a huge WWII-era diamond is the valuable object that people are getting blown up and shot over with the same wealthy smuggler back with a much more personal grudge to get the stone. For some reason he hires the same idiots to kill the same two people from the first film, but at least these two morons go out to a hobby shop, trying to badass it up with the much smarter shopkeeper. Weird interludes and more of the same stuff from the first movie make this juat as good.

Andy Sidaris was always a guilty pleasure of mine. They're the kind of movie you can put the sound off and play music to. In fact, his films are usually better that way.
(I love the way the women always strip down, get wet, then blow things up.)

Sun Bunnies 1976
Happening seventies dude: "I'm a pilot. Always flying high. Groovy seventies chick: "Well you've met the best landing strip around."
Penned by Mr. Ed Wood Jr. It was his last film. I was hoping for more priceless dialog and got it as a whole but was just too much late night Cinemax style lovin' for me.
Of particular note is the bimbo trying to meet a movie star. She heads out into the ocean to try to get him to rescue her. Does she fake drowning? Nope, she screams "shark!" Needless to say it didn't work.
God awful acting, an endless bongo beach dance and a disturbing rape can all be found here. Can't say I recommend it but at least I can say I've seen Mr. Wood's finale.

District 9 2009
Action packed Sci-fi. Enjoyed it very much. Only quibble is that the lead actor's accent made him a bit hard for me to understand him. Though he was excellent in the part.

The Seance. A group of college students have a ghost in their dorm. They have a seance to talk with the ghost, but end up bringing something else into the dorm. Pretty creepy and effective. Recommended.

Beat Takeshi's Violent Cop.
A more literal translation would be something like: "That man, who is violent." It's sort of a Japanese take on the Dirty Harry theme, but the Japanese take on things is often quite different. I saw Battle Royale mentioned earlier. Can't compare it to that (I rented it once but my machine refused to play it). This movie didn't have the surreal moments of Boiling Point, but still kept me mesmerized. Mishima Yukio once said that the Japanese are defined by the tension between their sense of beauty and their sense of brutality. If you're OK with that, this one is recommended.
As an aside, it's considered "mature." As such I had to register to stream it. Luckily I was able to do so at fancast as I seemed unable to through imdb. Anyone else had this problem?

"Masked Rider: The First"
A secret organization called Shocker is kidnapping humans and turning them into violent cyborgs. One such human is Takeshi Hongo, who soon turns on Shocker when one of his friends is killed. Another man, Hayato Ichimonji, is recruited and turned into a similar grasshopper-themed cyborg, but he doesn't follow orders either. The two put aside their differences to take on Shocker. There's another subplot about two young hospital patients that is rather distracting until the end, when they too become cyborgs.
"Kamen Rider" is an iconic Japanese superhero series, much emulated and revived over the past 40 years. "Masked Rider: The First" is a "Batman Begins"-like restart of the original series. It's pretty decent by itself, and it's hopefully not too confusing to those not familiar with the franchise, and it's nice to see KR anything released stateside. But the sequel, "Kamen Rider the Next", was able to pull it together better.

Hawkeye aka Karate Cops 1988
Everything is cliched about this buddy cop flick but that doesn't mean that it isn't fun. Obviously very low budget; the movie is filled with comedic bits, shootouts, and evil henchmen. The two leads play well off each other. Hard to believe its only rates at 2.3 over at imdb. I rate it a solid 6.
