I know I'm not the only fan of Pratchett around here, so I thought I'd start a thread about his work.
Mrs. Atari is working her way through the Discworld series for the first time, giving me a reason to revisit some awesome and fun sci-fi/fantasy/parody/whatever that this series is.
Our favorites are the City Watch books and anything that prominently features Vetinari.
It really sucks that Terry is suffering from Alzheimer's.
Bugr'it. Millennium hand and shrimp!

The only one I ever read was The Color of Magic, and that was quite some time ago. I remember enjoying it though.

I've started reading his books this year. So far I've read all of them from The Color of Magic through Pyramids, and I'm halfway through Guards! Guards! right now. (Oh, and I also found a copy of Where's My Cow? at a library and read through that.)
I'm a big fan of his books so far. I'm really liking Guards! Guards!, it may be my favorite yet (I can also see why the Discworld video game borrowed heavily from its plot.)

Some of my online friend turned me onto this a few years back and I've been a huge fan ever since. I especially love the City Watch stories, though the Granny Weatherwax stories run a very close second.
I've actually fallen behind in my Discworld reading due to school. Hopefully I can catch up this summer!

I love Disworld. Started reading them about last spring and am now reading Eric.
Have to say that the last two I read, Pyramids and Gaurds! Gaurds!, where my favorites of the lot so far.
The great thing about Pratchett is the humanism that seeps into his work, even moreso that the inventive plots and humor.

I keep having these recommended to me. How connected are the stories - would it be wise to start with the earliest, or could I just pick out one on recommendation and still follow it?

The books are all set in the same fictional universe, but different books follow different characters. Some people will just go after all the books featuring The Witches, The City Watch, or Death as the main characters - if they take a liking to those specifically.
Then there are also stand-alone stories that feature characters you never here from again.
...I'd start with Mort (book #4), which requires no past knowledge of anything and is the first thoroughly brilliant book. If you like that then go to the begining (the first 3 are good, just not completely brilliant).

I've read all the Rincewind ones so far because I owned the Discworld Playstation game. Still have it, in fact. I liked The Light Fantastic best. If only he could remember that spell?

I've been working my way through these in recently. I just finished Pyramids last week. I really liked that one. I think The Light Fantastic was one of my favorites, along with Mort.
I'm kind of a purist and always read series books in order. I know these are kind of different, but I still feel that obligation. Which is fine. With the extensive Discworld library, I will ALWAYS have something to read!

I read in the order that I found them on the shelf at the library.
I don't think it matters where you start, but I would recommend reading the various subsets (witches, city watch, Rincewind, Death/Susan) in their particular order. Within these categories, the stories are sequential.

For the uninitiated, here's a categorized list in order of each subset:
Rincewind: The Colour of Magic The Light Fantastic Sourcery Eric Interesting Times The Last Continent The Last Hero
The Witches: Equal Rites Wyrd Sisters Witches Abroad Lords and Ladies Maskerade Carpe Jugulum
City Watch: Guards! Guards! Men at Arms Feet of Clay Jingo The Fifth Elephant Night Watch Thud!
Death/Susan: Mort Reaper Man Soul Music Hogfather Thief of Time
Miscellaneous: Pyramids Moving Pictures Small Gods The Truth Monstrous Regiment Going Postal (Moist von Lipwig) Making Money (Moist von Lipwig)

How could I forget Hogfather! I love that book. Death replacing the missing Hogfather, giving out gifts for Hogswatchnight. I own the dvd. I read it every Christmas with Connie Willis' Miracle and Other Christmas Stories.

Guards!" two days ago, and had a copy of "Eric" in front of me almost instantly. Seems a bit shorter than some of the other books, but then again I dunno if I'll have as much reading time available. Time'll have to tell, I suppose.

^Eric was originally this big, lavishly illustrated book (like a huge storybook, but not really for kids). Since they wanted the book to be within the price range of the others they re-published it sans illustrations, so it's become more of a novella.

Thanks for your suggestions. Looks like I can get these ones as audiobooks from the library (my current preferred method, as I can get through books faster this way without having to rush through them so much):
Hogfather
Feet of Clay
Thud!
Wintersmith
Maskerade
Going Postal
Soul Music
Hat Full of Sky
The Wee Free Men
I'm curious on the City Watch series, since I can't get Mort this way (the specific title that angilasman mentioned).
