Thanks to MLB.com I was able to catch some Phillies games on the computer and had the pleasure of listening to Mr. Kalas. Truly, he was great and he will be missed.

The passing of Kalas is, indeed, sad. When you watch a lot of baseball on television or listen on the radio you really develop a bond with the announcers. Even as favorite players come and go, announcers are usually there through many changes and become more of a fellow fan and friend.
Fidrych was a little before my time, and at first the name didn't sound familiar, but as soon as I saw "The Bird," I knew exactly who they were talking about. A great baseball character who got a magical season under his belt before his decline. I mean, 24 complete games? In one year? I know it was more common back then, but that still sounds incredible.
Rest well, sirs.

Sat up until 4.30 am to watch the first game of the Twins Angels series. It was well worth it!

Sat up until 4.30 am to watch the first game of the Twins Angels series. It was well worth it! Trumpy, you are truly a member of the Twins nation! After that painful inning in which the Twins' pitching broke down again (for the second night in a row), the comeback of the young season took place. And then Kubel comes up in the bottom of the eighth and launches a monster grand slam to take the lead after being down seven and complete the cycle! God, I love this game.

Anytime any baseball player does exceptionally well at anything I can't stop myself from wondering if they're on performance enhancers. It's just about ruined the game for me.

I couldn't be much happier that the Cardinals are kicking ass for once! Even more that the Cubs aren't! Sorry, Cubs fans, but as your natural enemy, it's my duty. ;D Albert Pujols is awesome as always, and third base is more than adequately covered in the absence of Troy Glaus. It was just announced that Rick Ankiel will be out for 2 weeks due to his wall-crashing the other night.
I'm disappointed in the White Sox, my AL team, though. I have a harder time following their games these days.

I just want my Cubbies to make it to the end of the season (and hopefully beyond!) in one piece.

What upsets me is that there's probably some kid who really looked up and admired Manny that's ripping his poster of him off the wall and weeping in shame for being a fan of Yet Another Steroid User. I love MLB, but wow, gets harder ever year justifying it. For the record: I'm a Cubs fan

Well, we're at the halfway point. My Twins continue to hover in the area of mediocrity badly needing a No. 1 starter, second baseman and maybe a reliever. The Tigers a pain, and the White Sox won't just go away, so it's going to be a long second half for me.
Maybe they'll pick up Roy Halladay before the trade deadline. Knowing the Twins, never in a million years.
I'm kind of looking forward to the All-Star game, although I'll miss the home run derby tonight because I have to work. At least I'm employed, right?

HR Derby was okay but it didn't have a "Hamilton moment". I was going to sit up and watch the Allstar game because I'm in work later tomorrow but I'm just in from seeing Springsteen and I'm wiped so I'll record it and watch it when I get in.
And the Twins are very frustrating this year MC! Every time it looks like the momentum's going to start it just doesn't. Liriano has been very poor for me but at least Blackburn is continuing to shape into a very effective starter. And thank the heavens for Joe Mauer because some nights he feels like the only reason to watch them!

The Cleveland Indians are going to be the 2nd-worst team next to the Nationals.
It's bad enough that Dick Jacobs died this year (and he was a much better owner than the Dolans) but it will be worse if they kept Shapiro and Wedge.
Beat the Tribe!

Liriano has been very poor for me but at least Blackburn is continuing to shape into a very effective starter. And thank the heavens for Joe Mauer because some nights he feels like the only reason to watch them! And the pain continues, Trumpy! The Twins blew a 10-run lead last night against Oakland and then got hosed on the final call at the plate. Admittedly, they shouldn't have even been in the position they were in at the end, but still, a call is a call and it should be made correctly. Now they've picked up Mark Grudzielanek for middle infield relief, which I guess isn't the worst thing they could have done, but I still hope they go after and get Freddy Sanchez from Pittsburgh. We'll have to give up some kind of pitcher to get it done, which is fine, unless they're willing to trade straight up for Delmon Young Otherwise, I'm looking out for the Phillies (hot, hot, hot) and the Dodgers. With the exception of Manny, I really kind of like both teams, and they have a real shot at finishing the season strong.
