Lets see. I bought Hitchcock's Sabotage and Young and Innocent, and the Criterion 2 disc set of Jacques Tati's Playtime. I'm sorta an auteur collector...all my movies connect to artistic directors. Yep, I'm a movie snob. It's Bergman or nothing.....

Amazon had a good price on the Marlon Brando Collection so I picked it up. It includes (with my ratings)
Julius Caesar (3.5 out of 5) Teahouse of the August Moon (4.5/5) Mutiny on the Bounty (5/5) Reflection in a Golden Eye (3/5) The Formula (2.5/5)
I own them all on tape (they're packed up somewhere) but I thought it would be nice to have them on disc and to see the extras)
I also found The Wild One on the cheap... no extras, what a shame.

It was the only way to get the Appaloosa, plus there were 2 others I don't own on VHS. The Ugly American was the only one I already had on tape.

It was the only way to get the Appaloosa Man, the Appaloosa is a good movie. I've seen it a bunch of times and it just seems like it's totally underrated. Another great John Saxon villain performance too.

Ha, ha! That's funny, I wrote my review along those same lines... critics didn't like it, but it had a lot of fans... I have to say that I side with the critics.

I sing the praises of this film a couple times a year, like clockwork, and I finally ended up buying it on ebay - it's pretty expensive as DVDs go, and it's kind of hard to find for much cheaper used, but I finally snagged a copy for under $10 shipped. The film gets my highest praise, it immediately went onto my all-time favorites list the first time I saw it. It has a great story, and it's the most visually arresting film I can think of (although it's definitely more effective on the big screen).

Cool - and good price (always fun to get a deal). My purchase wasn't so great, I couldn't find it for rent, but I found a cheap copy so I bought Dr. Moreau... oh the things I do for my writeups. Strangely it's not the worst movie I own.
Speaking of deals I've read that DeepDiscount.com's 25% off DVD and Blu-ray sale starts July 17. The first code I've seen is HOTSTUFF.

Another cheap ebay purchase. How have I not bought this already? I've been reading the book at callipygias' suggestion (the book and film are about as perfectly complementary as you'll get adaptation-wise) and that got me wanting to see the film again. The film's easily the best wide release of 2007, and one of my all time favorites.

One of my favorite movies (Arthur Penn directing Brando - Sweet!) My VHS looks pretty sorrowful (it was an old cheap goodtimes video edition) and I heard this looked good, and it does. I was going to get it with the Deep Discount sale, but they didn't offer it. I found it at Amazon, new for $3.00.

Grabbed a copy of Twister for only $5.00 while standing in line to buy peanut butter pretzels (nope not Wally World). Man those point of purchase displays really work!! I am a major weather geek* but do think the story is quite good, plus it has kind of a fun vibe despite mother nature's scariness on display. And anyway I like Bill "it's a bug hunt man, a bug hunt!!" Paxton and Helen Hunt, and like seeing the camraderie thing between them and their tornado team. While not a movie, just wanted to add last month I also bought season one of The Venture Brothers, pretty much my favorite animated show of the past five years. * next weather related purchase: a forecasting watch! It contains a barometer with pictorial display of what might happen a few hours from now. I also own one of that company's home weather stations.

The other night I was watching TV at my Aunts and there was this cartoon, it didn't make me laugh in hysterics the way MST does, but I did laugh and it was so crazed (David Bowie and Klaus Nomi were characters) really strange and funny... found out later it was the Ventura Brothers... It sparked enough interest that I need to see if my local video store has them for rent.

Nobody has it for rent, not even Netflix… so I ordered a used copy of Harold Lloyd’s last movie, “The Sin of Harold Diddlebock” – It’s a Preston Sturges film when Sturges was on the downside of his career so it’ll probably be bad Oh and not a movie, but I pre-ordered season 1 of the Patty Duke Show. Amazon has it for $40; Deep Discount offers it for $25! I wonder why the wide gap in price?

It's not perfect, is riddled with cliches but I really enjoy watching it. I got the one with the extras and they are decent. It includes deleated scenes so you can see Storm as a little girl, and the alt memory loss sequence -which is not any better- I don't buy for a second that Logan would trust Stryker again, no matter how disheartened he was.

"Icons of Sci-Fi: The Toho Collection" featuring dubbed and subbed versions of "The H-Man", "Battle in Outer Space", and "Mothra". I have all three on ::ahem:: unofficial VHS, now I can make more room on my shelf.
