I just had a really bad experience with an airline a couple of days ago and I'm really starting to question flying to these shows anymore. I hope this will pass. I think it would be great to drive to a show so if they do Atlanta, Tampa, Orlando or Miami I certainly can drive to those venues for the experience. Nothing beats a live performance in a theater full of fans! That's what happens when you try sneaking onboard with a little something "extra" in your shoe, Doc... Or, a little something extra in your underpants!

They are, they are doing live shows.
I know, I know and I'd love more DVD releases too. But I've come to accept that this is a live comedy act first, and as with most live comedy acts you get a DVD or a CD here and there, but nothing to the level of what Rifftrax offers. MST3K was TV, Rifftrax is the computer age and CT is a touring troupe, each has their own personality.
But yeah, I would like some news on what they are planning for the coming year, when we should expect something in the way of DVD releases.

but it didn't start out as a live comedy tour, and they have a LOT of fans who don't get to go to the live shows who would really appreciate a dvd. i'm totally on board with the live dvd releases - i just wish they would get them out a little more often.

Actually, not to be a contrary jerk - but I remember an early interview with Joel where he talks about the live shows being the focus. In the formative stages they did offer that DVD/download poll, but it sounds like touring was where his head was at from the start. Considering that - how many DVDs and CDs does Jim Gaiffigan and the like release a year? 1, if that. CT released, wha,t 3 last year? When you think of it that way, then we have fared pretty good on that score.
I wish we could get more as well. I'd love a steady diet of these and I'd like some info, some kind of schedule, even if it is just 3 a year. At least I'd know what to expect and look forward to.

Not to be a contrary jerk myself - though that's often an impossible task - I would ask if you could track down that early interview. It doesn't match my recollections, as the focus of the live shows has only been acknowledged in recent times. It started with a live show, and they always acknowledged their stand-up roots/love of crowd reaction, yes. But originally they seemed focused on studio production - at least, that's my own recollection.

I can confirm reading that in an interview, but I will disagree with MJ--it was a good year or more after they had started. The original concept had no mention of Live shows. I mean, why all of the talk about the new theater silhouettes and the (lame) attempts at a background story, if it was mainly a live show?
I will admit though, that they have done live stuff from the beginning. They previewed Oozing Skull to ILM before it debuted. And they had a handful of shows back as far as DOOMSDAY. I think what happened was they got a taste of the Live stuff, and tickets sold well and the just gravitated toward it. If it's what they like, good for them, even if it did drive away some fans (me).

none of that really matters to me, as a fan. if they want to concentrate on live shows, then great- the people who have access to them will be happy. but at least continue to release dvds to the rest who cannot. as it was so eloquently said: do SOMETHING!

The last studio DVD release, "Blood of the Vampires", is a few weeks shy of it's two year anniversary, Mar. 19 2009. I think that should tell you all you need to know about CT's intentions in that regard. Hate to say it, but they are fading fast for me.

I'd love to see them release "War of the Insects" or some other show that they are performing live. It would certainly help keep the interest up.

Don’t get me wrong, I want more too – I love what these guys have released. Love it like a comedy zealot. I'm cuckoo for CT - But maybe I’m mellowing in my old age. I can’t change it so why sweat it. They’ll come when they come… or not. (and sorry cubby, do you know how many damned interviews Joel has given in the past few years? I scanned a bunch but can't track it down. So you can't chose to disregard my memory

I do think you're misremembering, but if you do run across it in the future some day, feel free to correct me. My bottom line was that whether or not the live shows were the focus at the beginning, they are now. I would have preferred to see them find that stage energy and successfully transplant that to the studio - but that's neither here nor there now. At this point, I think we'll see new DVDs when they feel they've honed the material to a razor's edge - or when they play L.A. again. (Maybe not that last bit. But maybe so.)

I can't find the exact interview (and it's driving me nut that It's eluding me) but going through a bunch of them the one thing I get from Joel is that it sounds like they were hand in hand - live shows and studio releases. That they were trying to find a concept, a premise for the studio releases - but it seems that was kind of a headache and that he prefers it live so that they don't have to worry about that aspect. Here's one of several interviews where he mentions something along those lines... bostoncomedy.blogspot.com/2010/10/boston-comedy-interview-joel-hodgson-on.html
