amen. this sucks. i seriously doubt i'll ever make it to a live show - and even if i do, as great as i am sure the experience is, it can't replace a dvd. and having an audience in the background on a dvd - i don't care how well it is mic'd - would be too distracting for me.

"Because of this that we’ve decided not to record our last three live features (East Mmeets Watts, Danger on Tiki Island, and Alien Factor) in the studio, as I previously announced. Instead, we will continue to present these features in future live dates."
I don't know how much clearer that could be. Its not speculative to say that these won't be on DVD... the man just said that they won't be... and frankly, that sucks @#$*¡ on toast! I saw the live presentation of Danger on Tiki Island in Atlanta. It was great, but I was thinking the whole time, "I can't wait till this one is on DVD! It's going to be my favorite CT episode now!" Well, now that has been blown to bits... I can't put into words how utterly disappointed I am with this move. Not just disappointed, but pissed!
I'm not mad that they are taking a break, but the fact that those three will never be preserved and presented on DVD... and as for live DVDs... bleh... screw that. They have to drop so many of their jokes due to audience laughter, so it reduces the riffs per second. This is really crap! Not happy with CT at all... I probably won't see them live again. Too expensive and I don't want to go see an episode that will never be recorded on DVD.

I trust Joel & the Titans to do whatever they think is best.
I mean, what else can we do? Go to MST.com and watch lame Flash animations???
Edit:
@ SirHamHat
I saw them perform Doomsday Machine "live" at the Ford Theater, before getting the DVD. I believe they were virtually identical in the number of jokes.
That said, a "taped in front of a live audience" version HAS to be somewhat distracting, right?
We shall see...

Go to MST.com and watch lame Flash animations??? They stopped doing those. Go check it out, they have a great Genesis page with cool content from the show's KTMA days.

Well, I think a lot of us suspected this was coming. I think the closest live show to me so far has been about a 6-8 hour drive one way. I don't have the time, money, or frankly inclination to make that kind of trip to go to one of these shows. To be honest even if it was in my own town I'm not sure I'd go. I'm just more of a DVD on my couch guy than super-crowded auditorium guy. Thumbs down.

You know, we're all assuming CT has the resources to do whatever they want/whenever they want. I suspect these weird moves are being dictated more by the crap economy than by what they really want to do.

Its not that there couldn't be other contributing factors for this decision... But once again, I will use Joel's own words to make the point:
"Obviously, our live shows have become a focus for us at CT over the last year, and I’d like to thank the over 12,000 people who have come out to see us so far. Because of this that we’ve decided not to record our last three live features (East Mmeets Watts, Danger on Tiki Island, and Alien Factor) in the studio, as I previously announced. Instead, we will continue to present these features in future live dates. I do hope you can make it out if Cinematic Titanic comes to your area: watch us follow our bliss and the riffs that go with it!"
I think if it were the economy or some other reason, Joel would be forthcoming with that information... I mean, it would be easy for him to just blame it on the economy, because then he makes it off scott free and he wouldn't have to deal with all the pissed off fans (like me) that want to see their 3 live shows make it to studio DVDs. He clearly says, basically, that the live shows are doing well... they are happy about that, so NO DVDs... Did I mention that I'm angry about this? Just wanted to make that clear. Its their decision to do this... and they can do whatever they want. As live performers, I'm sure the live shows give them a real boost... but I still think they benefit from keeping the masses happy with product. i.e.- STUDIO DVDS!!!

Right, but remember Joel also gave a different reason at first for leaving MST. I'm just reading between the lines. I noticed they removed the contact info for the touring company they used on the last two tours. Something must've gone wrong there. Like Chuck said, we don't know everything that's going on behind the scenes. Anyway, Josh indicated on Twitter that they aren't necessarily giving up on DVDs, so I'm deciding to take this as a delay.

Wow, what horrible news. Rifftrax is alright, but Cinematic Titanic is just as good as MST (in my opinion).
I hope this is just a delay, and hopefully if we complain loud enough we can make something happen.
After all, it worked in 1996.

Just out of curiosity, what don't you like about Rifftrax? They're providing more options than ever before with a lot of products and performers.

Yes, I read that as no DVDs as in right now or anytime soon, not as in forever. It looks like they want to do more live shows using those movies, so why would they release them on DVD if they don't have new movies for the live shows yet? I'm focusing more on Josh's comment and not taking Joel's at face value.

I'm just more of a DVD on my couch guy than super-crowded auditorium guy. Thumbs down. Ditto. When comparing my comfy couch to the obsurdly small seats in the Lakeshore Theater- Yes i concurr. I'm not a big guy- but i felt sorry for some of the really big folks who had to squeeze in those chairs;)
