East Meets Watts
I thoroughly enjoyed this one. I went into it with some apprehension because I didn't know how the live show would translate to DVD, or if the audience would be distracting. Thankfully the audience didn't bother me at all. The riffing was solid, and I got a huge kick out of the MST callbacks (and the accusation of "pandering"). The Titans appeared relaxed and really into it.
My favorite part was the spit take. It cracked me up, probably because I didn't expect it.
A really fun release.

East Meets Watts Sorry for the double post, but I figured this belonged here as well...
Well, here we go... I too, like gargonshepard, got the CT Live version of East Meets Watts from my wife for Christmas, much to my surprise. For those of you paying attention to my previous rants and comments, you'll know that I have adamantly apposed CT producing exclusively Live DVDs. I watched the 5 minute clip, and despite the hilarious riffs, I hated the audience reaction, exactly as I knew I would.
Well, I watched the DVD last night, and my opinion has changed ever so slight. I found after about 5 minutes (oddly enough) of viewing, the audience becomes white noise and less noticeable, with the exception of a few annoying times that someone in the live audience finds something much funnier than you. Regardless of the audience, I was absolutely rolling with laughter. The first 40 minutes of this DVD are worth the price of admission alone, some of the most consistent riffing ever, and clearly the best CT has had to offer to this point. This is easily my favorite episode of the 8 DVDs they've released. Many people have said that the audience was the magic behind East Meets Watts, but I have to say, I just think the Titans have really found their rhythm with this project, and the riff writing was just superb!
Aside from the sometimes annoying audience, I think the audio mix was pretty amazing considering how many different elements there are... I take no issue with the visuals, in fact, I think this is the perfect solution for the live DVD. Getting to see the looks on the Titan's faces was really fun... Loved the spit-take! I've seen them live, and this DVD does a really great job capturing the feel of the live event... much cheaper as well. I paid $80 for me and my wife to see them in Atlanta! Not something I can do more than once a year.
That being said, I have come to learn that I don't hate the live versions, and that I'm not going to boycott CT if they do stick with just the live versions... but I'd be ecstatic it if they could maybe alternate between studio and live DVDs in order to make everyone happy (including me). I love the studio releases and I would like to see the story arc continue. In conclusion, if you hated the idea of the live version, like I did (I mean, I was ready to riot in the streets, my friend), please give this DVD a chance. The format (mostly the audience) has its flaws, but the riffing and the movie are an absolute blast!

For the first time:
Doomsday Machine
....what? What! WHAT?!
-Oh, and as a Toho fan: the Earth flooding scenes are lifted from Gorath and a shot of "the spaceship" is the P-1 from Invasion of Astro Monster (aka Godzilla vs. Monster Zero)

I was surprised that they got away with this. Toho's Lawyers must have missed this one.

East Meets Watts. My favourite CT so far. Watched it twice and laughed like a drain both times!

Frankenstein's Castle I still find it to be their weakest (comparatively speaking, I don't laugh as hard or as frequently with it as the others). Saying that, it provides enough quality quips to make it worth a watch.

East meets Watts
I'd have to rank this one tops so far for the riffs. Enjoyed the MST3K references and found it funny when Josh had to apologize to the crowd for not making a MST3K reference.
The live experience is also a non issue as far as I'm concerned if they continue with this setup where we can see them off to the sides.
Can't wait for the next release!

East Meets Watts Second viewing. The riffing does dry up for a spell as it goes. But recovers and is generally good stuff.
I was watching the riffers more this time out. That added some extra fun.

Frankenstein's Castle of Freaks
You got Eegah in my Frankenstein movie!
I didn't care much for this one. These last two I've watched are definetely the lesser of CT's offerings.

East Meets Watts
Going into this I wasn't sure how I felt about the live presentation vs. studio. After about five minutes I knew the answer. It might be my favorite CT release so far.
The performers really seemed to enjoy themselves. I liked their interaction with each other and also their moments of genuine laughter. Riffing was spot on and the movie hilarious. The audience volume was kept at an appropriate level in the mix and didn't detract in any way.
I'm not saying that I want them all live but this one was top-notch.

A week ago I watched…
Doomsday Machine It has been a while for DDM, and I found that it holds up well enough. As much as I enjoy Rifftrax, I do like having the performers on screen (in shadow or on stage). The added sight gags - a spit take on Watts, Josh taking a shower in a fountain and the hilarious bit with the substitute riffer in astronaut garb here – are an added spice for fun.
I enjoyed the riff handoffs during the meeting (highlighted by Josh’s killer Elton John, LMAO!) and later during the blast-off (or whatever it was they were doing). The riffing during Katie and Masons death scene was a highlight too.
Man that ending was horrible but they got in some funny jokes during it. I liked the first skit, with Joel interrupting Trace but the second one felt awkward.
and today I decided to try….
Wasp Woman Maybe it was because I’d just sat through 1 and half eps from the Film Crew -a decent though a somewhat dry and spars venture joke wise- but this was the hardest I’ve ever laughed at this release.
The jokes fly at a faster rate and they were a generally cleverer, more in the classic MST style than what I received from the Crew. The FC did have great rapport and delivery, but the fab five were trading quips and interacting pretty well themselves on this one (and doing it smoother than they had on Doomsday).
Oh and I enjoyed the Buddy Rich skit.
I had a good time this time. In the past I’d considered this one of the Titans lesser efforts, but from the amount of big laughs I received this morning, it was king… at least for a day.

The Oozing Skull The first time I ever watched this I was filled with the warm fuzzies. It wasn’t MST, but it was close and I felt like I found something I’d lost. This is arguably the sparsest of the CT releases, but what we have is solid.
The riffing was funny and familiar in tone to MST (nice references – ala Frank’s giant harmonica quip + Trace’s Crow like giggle) and the shadowrama often added to my enjoyment (Josh’s goofy dance during the boots song, Trace guiding the airplane onto the runway).
The skits had some chuckles (Frank offering to hold Al Hirts hair… did he have hair to hold?) but exposed some weakness in the timing. They weren’t clicking on all cylinders here. Nice ending though (Brain of Blood-mobile)
Though they’ve since surpassed it – SCCTM & Legacy are steadier, Vampires had scenes with bigger guffaws (especially down the stretch) But this still is a fun one to watch and listen to.
“The man who killed Mohammad!” – “That’s my favorite Ray Steven’s song!” – Frank
“IT’S SLINKY!” – Joel
“…people keep sticking their gum on my face” – Josh
“It’s like theirs a game show in my head and I’m always wrong!” - Josh
