I don't know if this has been done before (if it has then please lock or delete this topic) but I have an idea called MST3k Debates. Where we forum members debate really silly things involving MST movies on the Forums. We will avoid conroversial topics like the always sour Joel VS. Mike. I got the Idea from a show on VH1, only this won't totally suck. The First Debate Whose the Bigger Nerd? Nick from Time Chasers or Tony from Puma Man State your side and your arguments

definitely nick. tony sorta masqueraded as a smartypants but he gets berated by the museum curator guy and although he's supposed to know about dinosaurs, the one fact-like thing he ever said about them (dinosaurs died because they didn't know how to love?) was wrong, and he was just trying to get laid anyway.
meanwhile nick from time chasers actually had a commodore 64 (or whatever that thing was) and actually busted out the retro floppy disks, plus he took whatsherface on a really dippy date by taking her back to a strip mall from the 50s instead of just impressing her with his camaro, his hi-fi and his bad attitude, the way a real man should.
game, set, match: nick wins the goober war, hands down....

In terms of straight nerdage, it can be tough. Nick's the definition of a nerd. He's very intelligent, scientific, into computers, wears glasses, doesn't own a car, and eats floppy disks for breakfast. But, he did wind up winning a few fist fights, and inventing something that, on paper, would be super cool in real life, and he did defeat Evil Corp, and he did get the girl in the end...
Tony may be less of a loser in the classical sense (no glasses for example) but he really did nothing! And he flew "like a moron"... had stupid lines, and looks about as intimidating as a newborn kitten. All his heavy work was done by his Aztec friend... and afterall, it was only Donald Pleasence he was beating up, and I think that Donald was still smarting after he got whipped in WARRIOR OF THE LOST WORLD.
Tony is the bigger nerd IMO.

when do we know when we're done? how do we decide who selects the next issue for debate?
we need marcus of queensbury rules! either that, or a john mclaughlin type to come in and declare, "the answer is..."
(i'd actually like to write in that dweeby guy with the glasses from "bloodlust," not just because of his turbo nerdiness but also because he had a hot girlfriend. that makes me bitter.)

Not Nick, for these reasons: He's smart enough to invent something we've been wanting for centuries, probably since recorded history built up and we had a sense of a long past. Smart is sexy. For another, he is athletic. He moves well, the actor choreographed the fights in the movie and they weren't awful, and the actor did his own stunts. He rides a bike everywhere, so he must have great thighs and calves. So, in his slender way, he's something of a hunk. His come-on to Lisa is fine, hi at the supermarket, let's go to dinner.
On the other hand, Tony's romantic blather with Hat Girl makes me want to unleash a biotoxin into the water supply of the planet, so no one that awful ever gets born again. His flying is silly. His clothes are silly (whereas Nick wears sensible jeans, etc.) He's laughable in every sense. I wouldn't date him, but I could see not only bedding but marrying Nick.
Give Nick some contact lenses, and it might help further. The chin is unfortunate, but don't we all have some unfortunate facial characteristic? I certainly do--the pug nose that was so cute in me as a kid looks ridiculous on a senior citizen.
And what do you mean, this means no controversy?!? I'm totally committed to this view and anyone who disagrees with me totally sucks and blah blah blah, rave, rave. I so care! (Okay, I'm lying. I really don't care at all andwill like you no matter if you think Tony is the 70's Brad Pitt.)

I'm with you on that one! I always spend the whole experiment wondering how that guy got the cute brunette.

As always, I am so in love with inlovewithcrow. She makes me laugh and laugh. Points everywhere.
Mrtia also got me laughing with the expression "turbo nerdiness." Aces.
I say Tony is the bigger nerd because when I came along "nerd" meant a hopeless uncool fem, and Nick is not really that. Tony comes damn close.
If we're allowed a write-in, it must go to MIKEY MIKEY MIKEY MIKEY MIKEY MIKEY.

End of Week I'll decide (Hopefully Unbiasdly) who the winner is then I'll add another debate. If anyone has any ideas for debates PM them to me, they're probably better than most of my ideas. Write ins for candidates are deffinatly allowed. In retrospect, I should have said biggest nerd in an MST movie.

Next Debate: Who was the most incompitent Santa, Santa Claus in Santa conquers the Martians or Santa in Santa Claus? Wow! What a choice! How did EITHER of them ever get the job done before we saw them? I guess the Mexican Claus bumbled more though. The SCCTM Claus seemed to have a handle on things, even though he played it innocent.

i'm gonna go with martian santa just because the santa-claus santa had better gear. "it's an oscillating fan with an ear attached... period."
wait... if tony won, does that mean he's the bigger nerd? or the other guy?
i was impressed with the spirited defense of timechasers guy. very convincing. *I* sorta want him now, and i'm not even gay...

Holy moly, this one is a tough call. Both of them do some things right, though they get kidnapped, treed by dogs, and other stuff you'd think they would have planned for! Mexican, Martian, Mexican, Martian. hmm. I'll join the crowd and go with Mexican Santa being the worst, mostly because he hired such bad singers.

it has to be said that the santa from santa claus was nearly totally incompetent. he only delivered toys to about three houses at the most, goofed off in a restaurant (as far as we know, since we never actually saw him) impersonating a waiter, eavesdropping into the dreams of children and panicked completely when he lost his magic powder and little flower. sure, pitch was a distraction, but come on. get it together, santa! those little kids at his palace were really running the show. especially the tiny cowboy kid. the santa in SCCTM was goofy, but he held it together and managed to outwit the martians, which couldn't have been too terribly difficult.

Mexican Santa. I'm pretty sure he got toys to, like, four houses at most. Whereas SCCTM Santa got toys to all of Earth AND Mars!
