This big guy (or gal) decided to take a breather on my fence. This one's a little blurry, digital zoom and no way to steady it on my camera for some reason. Oriole in my pear tree. Edit: Obviously, this was during the summer.

Had a penguin encounter at Mystic Aquarium. This is Blue-Green. She's a famous penguin. (She was in Mr. Popper's Penguins, toward the end). BTW: The trainer looked like comedian/musician Brendan Small (Home Movies, Metalocalypse).

Went on a bird cruise in a small boat in Cape May, NJ last week. Rare sightings of wood storks; the naturalist on board was really excited because he's a birder, he said they are very seldom seen that far north. Bald eagle flew low RIGHT OVER MY HEAD. Did I have a camera for all this? NO!!! ARRGGHH! I don't know why I forgot it, I had just gotten new batteries for it and left the hotel room without it. So mad.

Saw a raptor demonstration. This guy is a naturally occurring (as far as they know) hybrid. He's half red-shouldered hawk, half red-tailed hawk. Pretty cool. Unfortunately, they have him because some bitch shot him three times with a BB gun.

Saw a really gruesome sight at my bird feeder yesterday that I didn't know was a thing. I heard some distressed sounds out my window and when I looked, a starling was killing a sparrow. I didn't know they did that. Poor thing. They are both invasive species, but, I still felt bad for the sparrow. The starling flew off with it, and what I was guessing was the sparrow's mate was looking all freaked out like, "What just happened?"
Poor little guys.

My camera's not working - the battery compartment doesn't close right, so it's not making contact for the camera to go on. Too bad. The crows were out in force around dusk. It looked like it was snowing crows. Pretty cool. I'm pissed I didn't get a picture of that "murder."

Gonna have to fix my damn camera. Went for a walk in a state park and saw a bunch of turkeys in a tree. It's weird seeing them in trees.

These pictures came out so terrible, darn it. I was taking them through a screen. Maybe I'll try again tomorrow. This could just be a starling with a mutation in the coloring, but I swear some grackles are mating with some starlings. There was a grackle in my yard that was the same coloring and shape as the others, same kind of tail, but was much smaller than the other grackles. I think it's too late in the season for it to have been a baby (they would be a different color anyway). And there were two birds (got these pictures) that are mottled black and brown and look like a combination of starlings and grackles. Can anyone tell what they are? Again, the pictures are terrible, I know. (Not talking about the sparrows, obviously). Hope I can get better pictures some other day.

Saw a little baby mocking bird when I went for a walk on the beach yesterday. He was doing that wing thing they do when they are trying to direct sounds (or whatever reason they do it). Didn't have my camera. He was on the walkway and came up to me and just looked at me. I was like, "Go hide in the grass, baby."
So cute. I hope the parents are feeding him and he didn't get eaten by a cat or anything (or no stupid kid tried to pick him up).
