For those who are interested, Gareth Edwards' first film, Monsters, was released on DVD and Blu-Ray today. I picked up my copy, have you? Looks like another great disc from Magnet and Magnolia, who have distributed the latest from George Romero (Survival of the Dead) and Neil Marshall (Centurion), as well as The Host and the original version of Let the Right One In. Can't wait to give it a look. If nothing else, it's going into my Godzilla directorial collection. Why not? I have have Roland Emmerich movies in it. Can't be worse than 10,000 BC.

Just finished it, and I was engrossed from start to finish. Thought it was fantastic. All I can recommend is go into it with an independent drama mind instead of uber violent monster movie mind, and it will blow you away.
Not a lot of it screams Godzilla, though, but after watching this film I completely trust it in Edwards' hands. It will definitely be a different breed of film than the 1998 one.

Edwards' discusses Godzilla's legacy and evolution. He doesn't say much that is new, but he has revealed in the past few months he's watched a lot of Godzilla movies. It sounds like he has a terrific understanding of the franchise. Unlike a lot of people (*cough*TohoKingdom), I'm glad he's not a nerding out super-fan. When someone like that helms a movie in their beloved franchise we get the bloated and un-wondrous King Kong '05 and the hyperactive and ill-advised Aliens vs. Predator: Requiem. I'm hoping for someone who appreciates the franchise, but doesn't let his love for it overwhelm his common sense. That seems to be Edwards in a nutshell so far.

^Yeah, if you are a super-fan who ends up writing for your nerd obsession you have to have a very good head on your shoulders and value just good storytelling instead of total fanwank.
He likes Godzilla. He appreciates Godzilla. That's more than good enough for me.

If the producers are to believed, you're going to get one Ratso.
I'm praying for a big budget royal rumble myself.

May 16, 2014 www.comingsoon.net/news/movienews.php?id=94743Just in time for G's 60th anniversary! Smart slot so far. They're a year ahead of Avengers 2, and while it remains to be seen how successful Marvel's solo films will be, it's a month off from Captain America, and while I liked the first one, I doubt Amazing Spider-Man 2 will give it much trouble. It's opening opposite of the new Ninja Turtles movie, but with each ounch of news we hear, that project keeps sounding worse and worse, so G will most likely flatten them if they don't change their slot.
