It's an idea I had. Well, not exactly mine, I took it from plans that they had at one point.
Basically, Take comics, Add Theater silhouettes, riffing bubbles, host sequences, and... Tah-dah! Mystery Science Comics.
Only problem: I need Public Domain comics to make fun of. Does anyone know a good source?

If you need any help, I do this all the time while reading bad webcomics (try those of David Gonterman or Chris-chan).
Anyway, sounds like a good idea. I also recommend finding scans of old Silver Age comics with a good chunk of weirdness. They're the B-movies of comics books, really.

Hello everyone, new to the board.
About twelve or so years ago, I worked on a similar project while I was in high school. I used the first few pages of an older DC comic series, "The Creeper," and used a poor quality black-and-white photocopier to superimpose cut-out silhouettes and text bubbles. The work was sorely incomplete; the host segment designed to set up the premise only had one page drawn. I recently unearthed it from my boxes of old projects. Would it be okay if I shared it here?

I think you should share it. Who knows, if it looks good enough maybe you can continue where you left off.

The only downside is if I ever DID continue the project, I'd have to start with a public domain comic so as to not spoil the thing from being distributed outright. Then again, it's not like I own the MST3K IP anyway....

Well, strangely enough, I'm missing the first page of the comic-riffing portion and the front cover, which I know I did (the cover was just an MST3K-themed border slapped onto the original Creeper comic, my copy of which seems to have vanished). You'll also notice page 2 of the host segment is drawn significantly differently than the first. I think I decided I either couldn't keep up the level of detail from page 1 or I drew the second page at a much later time (which is probably why the lettering style looks so lazy on p.2), or both. I created an album of all the discovered pages on Imgur. Feel free to check it out and offer feedback. imgur.com/a/ughNAKeep in mind I didn't say it was all that *funny*...I made this back in high school, after all. Though I do think some of the lines held up okay.

It's funny and very creative. Much better than I could manage. I can't even draw a bath.

You got the spirit of the show down a lot better then I could've in high school(I tried doing some MST3K fanfics in high school. They sucked.). Of course if you're not comfortable with the comic idea why not make some MST3K fanart? It would be interesting to see how your style has evolved.

I was thinking of doing MST3K style comic covers with the MST3K characters in situations based on movies.

I agree with this idea and strangely enough, it really echoes MST3k as a whole because just like you're using free domain/older comics, this show did the same thing with expired copyrighted, low-budget flicks.
Also, like any movie, there's plenty of nonsensical comics and B-movie like page-turners to have a blast with. I wish the best of luck to you!

It's a good idea, I mean it' s a bit hard to do, but I'd read it. Especially if it was a webcomic.
