I'm curious to know what people think of the latest season. People who watch it on the BBC have likely already seen all of season 3's episodes, but those of us who rely on PBS just saw the first episode last week. (And I'm thirty minutes away from the second episode right now.)

Really enjoyed this episode. The first one was too winking and meta and cloying for my taste: too reflective on the show as a phenomenon and on the fans in particular and less concerned with solving mysteries.

I sort of felt that way about the first half of the first episode this season, but I felt like it got back on track a bit about halfway through.
I enjoyed the second episode last night, but it didn't quite feel... as in-depth as I would've liked. A broad focus on a lot of fun little ideas, but not a lot of focus on the actual mystery of the episode. (Though the episode *Was* good about not revealing the mystery that was being solved as it was happening.)

I was on the website and someone complained that there was too much "Buffoonery" this year, and I agree. I've not enjoyed this season. The first ep just felt off, I didn't care for the way Sherlock and Watson reunited. And while there has always been humor, it's just too sit-com silly this season. And It feels like it's being used as padding. Ep 2 took forever to get going and once it did, it stops and starts as we wade through the wedding reception (which made me uncomfortable half the time).
Make the deduction the focus, with character work and humor folded in as support. They did this with the brilliant first 2 seasons, but the third is out of balance and has been a disappointment.

New series starts on BBC1 on January 1st. Ooh, cool! That means it'll get to the states not too long after that. I was just wondering when I'd hear more about this. Thanks!

Well, now their relationship is going to be strained. That sucks.

Just caught up with last weeks episode. Getting panned a bit by the critics but I still think it's highly enjoyable. The episode in question is based, without going into too much detail, on a scandel that broke in Britain about 2 years ago.
Looking forward to tonights last episode.

Lots to dislike about this season. The second episode was the best by far, but even that had tonal problems. The finale was entertaining, and I enjoy some good fanservice. But there were so many ridiculous plot developments and narrative short-cuts that once I started thinking about what I had just watched, I got confused and angry.
Remember when Sherlock was a detective who solved mysteries by being clever?
