How nice. Start the 9th with a 2-run lead. Then Santos decides that pitching isn't really what he wanted to do with his life, and we allow the A's to end their 10-game losing streak against US.
Go White Sox!

So, Atari...they weren't exactly pretty, but that was a fun few games.

The Dodgers have declared bankruptcy. Yikes.

So, Atari...they weren't exactly pretty, but that was a fun few games. Fun, but very frustrating. The Rockies are historically a streaky team, but they really look like a .500 ball club this year. I'm getting tired of hoping they'll snap out of it.

The WhiteSox haven't been any more fun. Konerko's having a career year, Beckham seems to be coming out of his year-long slump, and Alexei is doing really well...but then Dunn decides that he doesn't really like to hit baseballs, Rios looks confused, Quentin/Pierre/Morel can't decide if they like consistency, and the bull pen's a toss up.
Dunn is the worst, though. That dude just looks lost and out of shape.

Yeah, the breakdown of the Rockies is very similar.
Helton's having a great year, and looks more and more like a hall of famer. Seth Smith is Mr. Consistency, and a very good right fielder. Ty Wigginton is coming up with some big hits.
Carlos Gonzalez is still great, but you get the feeling that last season's triple crown race got him paid, so now he's not really paying attention. Tulowitzki is as good as advertised, and plays hard every day. But he gets in slumps and presses too much. The rest of the lineup is triple-A at best.
The pitching is a joke. Ubaldo lost his mechanics. De la Rosa went down for the season...again. Chacin has great stuff, but when he has an off-day (like in Chicago on Monday), he's amazingly bad. And Aaron Cook is the local lifer, so no one has the courage to tell him he doesn't have it anymore. The bullpen was the best in the NL last year, and now no lead is safe.
Here's hoping they get it together in the second half because the NL West is there for the taking.

Spent the 4th at Cellular Field. I can't remember when I've seen a game end on a balk before, though.

That was amazing. It would have been a shame if the Sox had lost that. Maybe Dunn is starting to come around also.

Hey, Mod City: what is it with the White Sox and the Twins? You guys could call up a roster of nothing but the lowest level of your minor league system, and we'd still struggle, just because of your uniform. I don't understand it.

Not sure if you've noticed, but we pretty much have been calling up the lowest level of our minor league system all year ;D It is weird, though. As the Yankees are to the Twins, so too are the Twins to the White Sox, at least in recent history. Somehow we manage to pull off satisfactory pitching without any super big-name pitchers and the rookie position players tend to develop quickly. Look at Revere in center this year while Span has been out with a concussion. If Morneau ever gets back and Cuddyer can go back to right, we're going to have a glut of outfielders again. But like many pundits have said, it gets to be a mental thing. Oh and don't forget luck. Heh. Maybe it's just the fact that we have Thome now

You silly Cubs.
