I've played sax for about six or seven years now, and would like to know if there are any more... seasoned players here. I play a Yamaha Custom 875-EX alto, which I absolutely love. It's just perfect in every way, with a beautifully rounded sound (as opposed to the more popular Custom Z, which is too bright for anything except jazz, not that it's a bad thing), built like a tank, looks gorgeous, and has the smoothest key action I've ever tried. I've tried most of the "big" sax brands when I was looking for a new sax, and this has turned me into a pretty loyal Yamaha guy. I did try quite a few Selmers, and despite their pedigree, I've been consistently disappointed by their lineup. I've heard from a few people that their quality kind of tanked after the end of the '70s. And no, I haven't tried a Mark VI, though I still dream of someday getting the chance to see if it lives up to the hype.
Any thoughts?

I've been a flute player since I was 11, but I've recently picked up the soprano sax. Does that count?

I play guitar but have never once picked up a saxophone. I admire you guys that do though, it's not an easy instrument. I love sax and violins.
