yeah, i like the skins and the texans (grew up in houston, haved lived in dc for like 25 years). right now they're on the top of the division! i'm definitely still apprehensive, though. they seem like they've fixed some of their problems but i don't have a lot of faith in grossman. he's really good some days but he's a choker. amusingly, i was playing madden 12 last night, a preseason game with donovan mcnabb up against the colts with eli manning. it did NOT go well for me, but i found the alternate history aspect of it amusing. (eli's out, i think for the season, and mcnabb, well, we all know what happened with that). You're from Houston? I lived there right before the Texans started. I still remember the possible names they had and I voted for the Houston Wildcatters. Still bummed that it was the ultra-boring Texans. Plus, we lived right by the Medical Center...sucked because they were building that damn stadium just a couple blocks away. i did live in houston, but it was back in the boom-boom 70s during the apollo program and all that. i remember earl campbell very vaguely, but my main thought on football was that i hated it because it often pre-empted "the wonderful world of disney." there's something very decided-by-committee about "the texans" as a team name, it's awful generic, like they're trying to avoid upsetting anyone. (ask the "Redskins" about that one... ) out of the options available i think i'd have gone with the Apollos. that's pretty keen.

With the death of Al Davis... It seems that they will be winners this year! Now...I must take the "Browns" to the Super Bowl!...

This is a week late. Sky, nice win for your Eagles over the 'Skins, who always seem to be just the right fix for them. And this week? A bye for the Eagles and the "Daniel Snyder Redskins" start to show up again. From first to "we're still ahead of the Eagles, right?" A few more weeks and it looks like we'll be back in that ever comfortable last place.
And since I worked all day and only saw the final scores, will someone please tell me how the Saints scored a gazillion points in the Sunday Night game?

'skins tend to be just the right fix for all the substandard teams. we got to boost the self-esteem of the 1-5 panthers yesterday. yay! i think it was last year we gave the lions their one and only win. now they're going gangbusters.

Damn, I knew I should have taken the Broncos in my Survivor league, it might be the last one they win But I played it safe and went with the Saints. (Last week I took the Steelers, the week before it was the Chargers) Once you take a team they can't be picked again. Sooner or later I'll have to take the Broncos, Dolphins, Rams... Colts -- Scary. At least I'm still alive. And my rivalry game with my bro (Pack/Vikes) was pretty fun (more so for me). I told him as they were huddling up that if his team was smart, they should let Ponder throw a bomb on the first play, because the Packers would be focusing on the run game and would be in man position on the wideouts. And then they did just that. Criswell predicts! lol

Actually, I'm pretty sure that the Lions ended their record-setting road losing streak against the 'skins. Either that or it was their first win after their 0-16 season, but for some reason, I'm remembering the former. The Lions were better than 1-15 last year. But take heart! I seem to remember some 'skins fans on the net boasting a number of years ago about how they'd managed to beat the Super Bowl Champion at some point in the season. Any port in the storm, I guess. I can't believe the Broncos Tebow'd their way out of the Luck Sweepstakes yesterday. I hope the 4-12 season, rather than 2-14 or 3-13, is worth it.

But Tebow is definitely the anti-Orton (or, more accurately, the anti-Romo). Those guys are surgical and precise with great pocket skill, but somehow figure out ways to crap the bed in the 4th quarter. Tebow, on the other hand... In 4 career starts, he's led 2 comebacks of 14 points or more. Elway had 2 in his entire career. Orton is 6-22 in his last 28 starts as a Bronco. Tebow is 2-2. I guess I'll take it.

Panthers lose again but they are certainly much more exciting to watch than last year. Cam Newton has a great future.

Watching the Broncos today reminds me of watching The Bad News Bears. And I'm not sure it's Tebow's fault; the whole team stinks. Plus, the game plan is not doing him any favors.
But the talk all week will be how Tebow isn't NFL worthy.

On the bright side, the Texans are just continuing to leave a trail of debauched and saddened victims in the wake of their reign of horrific terror. It may be time to get Direct TV (or generic equivalent) so I can watch Texans games. It would be interesting to follow a team that won occasionally.

But the talk all week will be how Tebow isn't NFL worthy. I was talking about this with another friend of mine and both of us thought Tebow really shouldn't have been drafted in the first round. Personally I think he will become a good NFL quarterback, but it's going to take him time to learn to play the position at the NFL level. That being said, he has shown flashes of what he can do; the coaching staff should really call plays that play to Tebow's strenghts, get him moving out of the pocket and maybe running a bit. When he did that Sunday, the Lions defense had trouble catching up to him. Of course, the Broncos also have a horrible offensive line and their defense isn't good either. That's not Tebow's fault.

It's definitely not all on Tebow despite him seeming completely lost at times. Never should have been a first rounder. One has to wonder just what the hell McDaniels was thinking that day. Then again, he seems to be killing Sam Bradford now too - not that there aren't other factors, but they did beat the Saints. Go figure.
As to my Patriots, that was some serious beatdown the Steelers put on us yesterday. The score doesn't tell the tale at all. If the offense had done anything, it's possible they could have won. Instead, the Steelers had a near 2-1 in time of possession and the defense wilted except in the red area. Still, I won't be truly concerned if they take care of the Giants and Jets the next two weeks.
In other news, I've been on the Texans' bandwagon for three years now, looks like it might finally pay off.

I was at a Halloween party tonight and overheard the following:
"The way the Broncos are using Tebow is like if the Astros had told Nolan Ryan, 'You're fastball is too erratic. We only want you to throw off-speed stuff. You're allowed to throw 3 fastballs, but not until the 7th inning.' And the whole nation would have decided that Ryan should still be in triple-A ball."
Right on the money.

I have to agree with that sentiment. It's as if Elway and Fox want him to fail. I understand that they didn't draft him, but it's foolish not to at least try and help him and see what they do, or don't have, in him.
