Chuck did a few threads of links to various types of cover archives, but it seemed to me that a more open-ended thread like this was worthwhile. It's proverbial that one isn't supposed to judge a book by its cover, but in this mass-market age considerable effort often goes into them, sometimes with excellent results. Of course, the book itself need not live up to it, but my initial selections are all ones I consider excellent both on the cover and within. This last reproduces the original Freas artwork for Algis Budrys' Who? I've heard somewhere that this was one of those cases where the picture predated and inspired the novel. Can anyone confirm or deny? Durnit, I used to have the edition with that cover but loaned it out in the '70s.

I've heard both ways about Who? And I don't know. Love that book, though.

It's fake, but I'd read it for the title alone:

It's fake, but I'd read it for the title alone: That's freaking great.

It's fake, but I'd read it for the title alone: The subtitle is the funniest.
