I don't know if this is a sign of growing up or if I'm that much closer to putting the shotgun in my mouth... but I realized the other day that Christmas doesn't annoy me anymore. Now I'm not gonna run around in the streets naked like Jimmy Stewart and scream "MERRY CHRISTMAS" because I haven't found my Christmas spirit or anything like that I'm just indifferent to the whole thing now. It took me two days before I even noticed our Ratso was growing up.

I follow Buddhist philosophy (only a small percentage of Buddhists are the sect that practices as a religion) so I spend no money on gifts or cards. I spend no money on a tree, and do not listen to radio stations with Xmas music. It;s a secular holiday that was originally a pagan ritual so ehhhh And just this morning, I thought to myself, "Am I really going to make it an entire December without running across a single whiny, "The secularists are taking Christ out of Christmas!" or "It's just a pagan ritual co-opted by religious fanatics" diatribe?" No. I guess not. I thought I'd find someone on the internet who didn't jump to their own popmpous opinions and have a tinge of reading comprehension I lost, you didn't

Did you ignore the point of the MST song? You know, "to each their own"?
And last time I checked, not all Buddhists (excuse me, those who follow the philosophy) were confrontational firestarters who use a pretty well-worn holiday critique on a message board filled with sarcastic people and then complain when they get a pretty tongue-in-cheek response.
By the way, your punctuation is non-existent and you spelled pompous wrong. How's MY reading comprehension, Professor?

A lot of us are old friends on here and mainly talk to each other. Santatari's grumpiness on such issues is like the irritating quirk of a beloved brother-in-law whereas yours just seems rude. We're not kind to strangers in this subboard for reasons you just supplied. Get to know us a bit first before expecting to be treated as a rational being with emotions, dreams, hopes, etc. until then, expect every post you make in Sloane to be treated as troll scat.

Well, it's not like we're kind to each other on this subboard either. . . So let's reset this thread to back before the bruhaha: I would love to see the Xmas wish list you send your Mom. Here you go: www.amazon.com/gp/registry/wishlist/266DVROP9D5IX

Thanks for sticking up for me, guys, but I didn't mean it to be so snarky. I actually had that exact thought this morning. I was surprised that I had made it to December 17th and I hadn't run into either of those complaints. Those two topics have just been so ubiquitous and played out in recent years that I was amazed they hadn't cropped up yet. Especially in the circles I swim in. Not even on Facebook.
I guess I just counted my chickens too early.
And Mitchell, after looking at that list, I need to quote Marge Simpson. "I don't know what you have in mind for tonight, but count me out."

My extended family's been going at it for awhile. Some of them still say "Merry Christmas" like it's a challenge rather than wishing you well.

My parents ended up getting me one of those enema tables instead, but it just wasn't the same.

The way they say it so forcefully, like they're on a Senate subcommittee or something. "SAY MERRY CHRISTMAS OR I'LL CALL BILL O'REILLY ON YOU!"

Weren't they complaining about this last year too? Are they mad no one gave a crap about it then, or just recycling old whines?
To be fair, no one wants to have to come up with new material before the holidays.

When DON'T they complain about stuff like this?
I sometimes don't think they'll be happy until Jesus is elected president.

I doubt very much Americans are open-minded enough to vote for a Jewish Socialist.

I doubt very much Americans are open-minded enough to vote for a Jewish Socialist. ^^ Post of the year, right there. ^^ I just get so frustrated with both sides of this one. Really? That's what you want to fight about? Aren't there bigger issues when worldviews collide than who celebrates what holiday? Almost forgot where I was there for a minute. This is Sloane, not Observer's....so....
