Hey, so I've gotten curious about these "Let's Play" vids on youtube, where presumably witty, urbane, clever and talented gamers take us through entire RPG games from cover to cover, making witty, urbane, clever, and insightful comments as they do so? I've been trying to get into these because I work on a computer pretty much all day and am interested in finding something to listen to besides lectures on politics. Problem is, the "Let's Play"s i've tried have featured, not witty, urbane etc. commenters, but drivelly braggarts and dim bulbs.
Has anyone else ever tried to get into "Let's Play"s? If so, is there a let's player, or whatever they'd be called, that you'd recommend?

It's not YouTube, but my brother goes to giantbomb.com for his, and they seem okay. One they did on Hollywood Squares cracked me up good.
As for YouTube, I enjoy Toby Turner. He's geared a little younger, but he's got a good sense of self-deprecation and his ADD is far worse than mine. He's also not by any shot an expert at the games, so his frustration is entertaining and more realistic. I also like SeaNanner's for for a little older and more mellow commentary.

Toby Turner played Skyrim! joy.
I can't keep up with him though. he's like a sedated auctioneer. funny stuff.

That's half the fun of his videos. The Minecraft ones can get pretty epic, especially when he walks into lava or gets assaulted by zombies.
And if you check out his L.A. Noire videos, they're even better. Especially when he "drives".

yeah, i love it. thanks for the recommendation. he's like... a mix of a funnier old-school robin williams from mork-and-mindy days, and, like, wesley snipes or something. and he appears to be able to imitate every accent on earth. and he ROYALLY SUCKS at Skyrim, but it sure ain't for lack of trying!

If you're looking for funny game talk, go look for the "Games for Windows" podcasts from 1up.com. It started as a podcast by the people who put out the now-dead magazine, but it became something wonderful and absolutely hilarious. It was only half about games and mostly about their all distinct personalities. It'll be under GFW Radio, I think.
The also now-dead "Idle Thumbs" podcast was a thing of beauty.

Two Best Friends Play is great.
I watch Game Grumps on occasion too.

I usually do not like Youtube LPs or game commentators. However, Seananners usually is fun (especially his old COD videos), and I find crit1kal (search penguinz0) to be one of the funniest commentators. He usually plays god awful games and plays about 8 minutes before ending the video and never picking up the game again. I would advise checking him out.

As with many trendy things on YouTube, there are hundreds of imitators who do it poorly. I've not delved into Let's Plays enough to say that there are any that I'd strongly recommend, but I do know there are some good ones out there.
(Though I will say that I enjoyed the Sonic The Hedgehog 2 Special Edition Let's Play, if that counts. Which it might not...)
