Aw nuts, I missed the season finale of "Louie". I had it on DVR but then Mom deleted a bunch of stuff without asking me. Any chance it'll be rerun?

i'm not sure how fx works - if they will show it or not. you might check on saturday nights; sometimes i catch it then. if not, they might not start re-showing them until just before the new season starts next summer. but i'd think they would, considering his rising popularity on their network.

I have mixed feelings. Sure, it sucks that he's taking a break...a long break. But then again, this is a sign that he's being true to himself. I knew before finishing the article that he would use at least some of this time off to get back on the road. He doesn't want to go stale, and by god, neither do I.
I will wait this out, and thankfully, so will FX. Unlike the broadcast channels, who constantly take quality for granted (Arrested Development), they are willing to stay in his corner, knowing it's worth it.

Oh, and by the by, does anyone around here watch It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia? If so, let's keep the good vibes going...

i watch sunny from time to time, but i have to be in the mood for it. danny davito is a great producer and hilarious to boot, and the cast is equally funny. however, every show follows the same pattern - you can set your watch to how long it will take before they are all screaming at each other and that gets old with me. if i wanted that kind of entertainment, i could start watching those catty "reality" shows. the writing and the ad-lib is sharp and funny, but i don't watch it religiously. i can't.
i see your point on louis - it's pretty amazing when you get an emmy for your great show and immediately say - shut it down for now; i need a break. i certainly understand and respect that - and it would be better for him to re-connect with his first love, standup, rather than burn out on a weekly series. a lot could happen between now and 2014.

That is something to get excited about. Although, after taking a long break from the show, it seems that SNL doesn't feature as many skits with the host as they used to. Nowadays, I've seen them padding the running time with re-runs of their pre-taped skits instead of something original (almost always with the host). Maybe he can inject some originality in that crowd.
His humor is just the kind of thing they seem to suppress on SNL so I hope he can mix things up. He's nothing if not genuine.

true. i always wondered if it depended on the host - how involved they wanted to get in the show. but i've never heard either way. the pre-taped skits seem to go either way - they are either really funny or embarrassingly bad. with the hot streak he's on now, i'm sure it will be a great show. i hardly ever watch snl anymore - the last full episode i think i watched was when betty white hosted.

it was great. any of the other two people who post here see it? the lincoln sketch was the best. i couldn't stop laughing. the hotel sketch was a little weak, but i liked how much louis sounded like james lipton. and that one with the australian film legends was pretty funny too. "you suck forever ass." ;D

I loved the Lincoln skit, his "monologue" (really just his stand up, and to that I say f*ck yes!), and that creepy last skit at the bar. In all my years of watching SNL, the last skit is always the most wacky. I enjoyed the "kiss" because, much like his show and stand up in general, it was a ballsy 'yeah, we went there' moment, only this time on live TV.
Using his stand up as monologue was a smart move. Again, as a long time SNL viewer, that opening few minutes can be real murder for an entertainer without purpose. It seems like for some, they can't think of anything good, and just go with the least crappy idea (unless it's someone who can sing or dance like Walken or Timberlake).
All in all it was a strong outing, but maybe not the home run I would have liked. I wish the entire show had been turned over to him, if only for that one week. I enjoy his comedy that much.

me too. i wish he had been in more of the sketches. his opening monologue was great - forgot to mention that. that "now i HAVE an old lady," cracked me up.

No matter what, when all is said and done, this is a milestone for him. I know he was a George Carlin disciple, so being on SNL must have been a huge accomplishment to him personally.

i'm still bummed about the delay in his show, but so far i think he has handled his career rise brilliantly - staying true to himself and not going for a deal breaker orgy. deal breaker orgy - i don't know if that is a real thing or not, but it should be.
