Recently hiked to Bronson Caves. I hadn't been there in years, and I also hadn't been there since seeing Teenagers From Outer Space!

did you see them in the caves? is that where they are now? I didn't want to venture too close without a plastic toy ray gun.

With a little help from YouTube, I fixed my dishwasher this afternoon. It's a Quietseries 300, which as the name implies, should be quiet. And it has been for the five years I've had it. Then it started making a choppy/grinding noise during the last cycle. I didn't want to call the appliance guys and found a decent little video on YouTube. It still took me two hours, but by god if the repair appears to have been a success!
This is good, as I just had to replace my dryer. I had been using it since when I moved into my first non-dorm place in college - in 1996. My brother did a $15 fan replacement on it a couple years ago and extended the life, but the heating element finally gave up. So I bit the bullet and just picked up a decent used one ($150, really not that bad). The old one had to have been 15 years old when I got it. The topper? The replacement dryer has a light on the inside! Whoo! Living large, people.
Mod City tip: I needed two sizes of Torx bits to take the dishwasher apart, and thankfully I had them. I actually only have Torx security bits (for certain arcade-related work), but those will work both for the security-type Torx screws and normal Torx screws. A normal Torx bit will not work with security screws. If you ever need to buy Torx bits, just buy the security version. They're a little more expensive but can handle both jobs.

nice going, mod. it's always jarring when you live in a real house and can't call a landlord when something screws up. it's pretty satisfying when you fix something yourself - you should have seen me when i fixed my leaky kitchen faucet - but that's a major appliance. that dishwasher started talking back and you just shut it up. FTW!

I have settled into a good rhythm for making cheesecakes.
My cheesecake brings all the boys to the yard, and gives them diabeetus.

got a ticket to see them on feb. 12th - very much looking forward to it. wow - went to see afiara last night. they must have had a change because it was three men and a woman, not two women, two men as is in the video i posted. either way, they were incredible. beautiful. i was a puddle of goo by the time it was over. got my new tattoo beforehand - i love it. the artist, a guy named kiko, is just starting out in his shop, but he does very good work and is really nice guy. good experience all around.

i had the best time at work today. a law clerk is training to be a back up magistrate, so we held a couple of mock arraignments so he could practice. i got to be a difficult defendant accused of beating up his girlfriend. the funny part is, a guy i work with played the victim, the guy's girlfriend, who sat in the gallery. since i've seen MANY belligerent defendants, i had a lot to work with. it was great fun. maybe not for the guy training; he looked like a deer caught in the headlights a couple of times, but the rest of us had fun, anyway.

i ordered a memory foam pillow with that cooling gel insert thingie from amazon about a month ago. it got lost, according to amazon. so they paid the shipping to send a replacement. i had to wait 3 more weeks. but it finally came yesterday. tried it last night and it's amazeballs. guess what came today? the first pillow i ordered. it's an embarrassment of riches!
