Albert King Chic Deep Purple, Donna Summer Heart Joan Jett and the Blackhearts Kraftwerk The Marvelettes The Meters N.W.A. Paul Butterfield Blues Band Procol Harum Public Enemy Randy Newman Rush
.....Rush baby! Yes! Finally!
Anyway, my choice for the 5 nominees to get in: 1. Rush (duh!) 2. Kraftwerk 3. Deep Purple 4. Heart 5. Joan Jett and the Blackhearts
Notes:
It's interesting both Public Enemy and N.W.A are nominees this year. They may just cancel each other out via voters.

Kraftwerk finally. I can't remember where it is but I had a major rant about that on here around the time Madonna went in. I apologise for anyone who had to read it but my word do I love those crazy Germans.

And still no Chicago. Yes, before they were the ballad band of the 80's and beyond, behind the leadership of the late great Terry Kath they could rock in their day.
38 million albums sold, 22 gold, 18 platinum, and 8 multi-platinum albums and 21 top ten singles and bands like Chic and The Meters are nominated this year? What a joke.
As a Canuck, it was really nice to see Rush get a nomination.

I don't keven know who the Meters are.
-MJ goes for a listen- ah, well I'm not much into funk so it's no suprise I didn't know them.
As for the HOF -- Heart, I'm rooting for Heart.

The Meters were a New Orleans R&B band, with Art Neville on keyboards albums produced by Allen Toussaint. Cool stuff, but not so well known outside NOLA.
Given the rest of the nominees, I don't see how Rush won't get in. Deep Purple, duh. Kraftwerk? As much as I hate techno/electronica/house music, the HOF should be about lasting influence rather than personal taste. Albert King -- there are still blues legends who aren't in? I see Donna Summer going in over Chic as a posthumous nod. Randy Newman -- an absolutely brilliant, sarcastic lyricist before he went Disney on us.
And I'm for rappers going into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame. The idea is that this is for music from the rock era, the artists who have paved the way for and who have influenced the broad rock and R&B genres. Public Enemy and N.W.A. sound nothing at all like Led Zeppelin, but they ultimately came from the same place. That said, I'd go with P.E.

Reaperg, have you listened to Randy Newman's latest song? It's brilliant, and full of the kind of bracing cynicism that makes him such a great satirist. You really ought to give it a listen.

I'd like to see Public Enemy make it, just because they might give another version of the Sex Pistols' rant, although probably with better spelling. Rolling Stone and their crooked little club can (insert phrase that would be censored by the board).

Flipper Superchunk Dead Kennedys Gang of Four Buzzcocks Ummm... I think I'm wasting my time here. Add The Descendants too that and we have a deal. I have no comment on this hall of fame. I'll just let Cracked.com share their thoughts on it: www.cracked.com/blog/5-people-cheated-out-rock-roll-hall-fame/EDIT: Oops, forgot to leave a warning for that link. Cracked.com does use foul language and can be non-pc at times, so click at your own risk.

Haven't heard it, but if it's like his old form, then that's a good thing. People who just know his movie music would be surprised... but then they might also think he was being sincere when he sang "I Love L.A."

Seeing as how Flavor Flav is scoring with white women on reality shows these days, I'm sure he (if not Chuck D) will be fine with going into the HOF.

He never really strayed from his old style, and he's certainly come back to it in the last 15 years or so. "Badlove" had some of his angriest songs ever, and it was released well into his "Disney phase". But definitely check out "I'm Dreaming"; he really goes out.
