We've had this discussion before. So let's have it again! TLC Bravo The Family Channel ZDTV (what the blazes is that?) Arts & Entertainment Netowrk AMC Many in the comments bemoaned other, arguably more obvious choices, like Sci-Fi, MTV, and the History Channel. Myself, I miss the good old days of Cartoon Network (my area doesn't air Boomerang).

Granted, it's very different, but do people actually have a problem with AMC becoming what it is? Three of the greatest television programs currently airing live there. I had more of problem with them when they'd play "Die Hard 2" three times a week.
I back up the people complaining about the History Channel though. It sucks on toast.

Don't forget ABC "Family"...sheesh! Yes, History Channel had such promise, but now it's just The Propaganda & Speculation Channel.

History Channel doesn't have history programs any more; Ice Road Truckers, Pawn Stars, Swamp People, etc. I liked it better when they had history program on.

Even their "history" programs are slanted.

this reality crap is getting out of control. i despise it. TLC is the biggest offender, imo. it is supposed to be the learning channel! i remember watching documentaries on it that i enjoyed. now all this honey-boo-boo crap makes me sick. AMC doesn't bother me too much - but they have a very broad scope of what they consider "classic."
TBS is starting to piss me off, too. how much family guy and king of queens am i expected to take in a week?

Honey Boo Boo is a child pageant contestant who appeared on Toddlers and Tiaras. She has her own reality show now which showcases her redneck family. It's the kind of thing you would have seen on shows like Maury or Jerry Springer, but now on the Learning Channel.

they're horrible! wretched. i've never seen the show, but i've seen a few clips and it makes me sick to think - 1. people actually watch this, and 2. people watch it and believe this is how people from the south behave. i feel bad for that ignorant, sugared up little kid - her 15 minutes will eventually run out (please, god, let it be soon) and she's going to have her own reality to contend with after that. i've seen clips of the show on the soup, and joel mchale refers to the mother as the human thumb. it's truly vile. there was one part of the show a friend told me about, where the mother was cleaning the dirt out of her neck folds. this is what people watch?? why don't we just start watching people get pulled apart by horses again and be done with it? /rant

Bravo -- The Real Housewives of Who Gives a Crap channel.
And for the record, I am a "Top Chef" fan. I'm a foodie, and I'll give a pass to reality shows that are at least some form of talent competition, even the numerous "American Idol" knockoffs. But seriously, you can make a drinking game out of the product placement on TC.

Wait, what about Cartoon Network? It used to be really good cartoons that were good for adults and children, and now they are just stupid kid's shows that have no real stories.

i can't speak for the kid stuff, but i used to enjoy adult swim. i don't know if i've gotten too mature for it (yeah, right) or the shows are getting stupider, but i'm not as into it as i once was. perhaps i'm simply too sober for them.

Maybe the lesson to be learned is, if you're an alternative cable station, you have one of two choices:
A) Diversify your format from the get-go, so that tweaks to your programming down the road don't truly alter your identity as a whole (TBS and USA for example).
or
B) Get there first and stay there... and pray that another cable outlet with similar programming doesn't come along and steal your thunder. Food and HGTV have, all things considered, maintained their identity over the years (we haven't seen pro-wrestling on HGTV... yet) because they never really had a lot of competition on that score.
By contrast, Discovery, TLC, History, Travel, and National Geographic have undercut each other far too much over the years with copycat counter-programming.
Something had to give eventually, and it did.

nickelodeon might as well change there name to the spongebob squarepants network. No matter what time I turn to that channel, it is ALWAYS pongebob squarepants.

How about TVLand? I remember (when I was a young kid) enjoying when TVLand first came out and it played all these old sitcoms, Green Acres, Petticoat Junction, That Girl, and what not. Now the closest it comes to it's original identity is reruns of Gunsmoke and I think I've seen Sanford and Son lately, but other than that it is all sitcoms that aren't all that forgotten yet, and their original sitcoms.
At least there's MeTV that takes it's place, but unfortunatly it's not a cable network so it depends on your local provider, and many of them over play time slots with Paid Programing.
