I enjoyed myself thoroughly. I've seen Starship Troopers before--in a theater no less!--but the combined pain and hilarity of watching it was just about as sharp as the first time. Yeah, everyone knows that the movie was probably meant as a satire; I'm sure that Verhoeven, who got much much closer to actual war than Heinlein ever did, saw clear through the jingoism and out the other side. But, satirical or not, it's still two hours of the barely tolerable antics of the dumbest pack of morons ever to play war on screen. Denise Richards--oh, God, there's just nothing there. The concept of "dull surprise" might have been invented for her. And Caspar van Dien is just adorable when he scrunches up his face (I guess he's trying to look severe but really it looks like pouting) and puts on his tough-guy act.
The riffing was fairly sharp right from the beginning Clash of the Titans reference, but I wish there had been a bit more of it. The pace of the riffing was on the leisurely side, I thought.
Also...I guess Rifftrax is kind of compelled to concoct evasions when there's nudity onscreen but the "gorilla-gram" stuff was just too cutesy and forced. A number of people in the audience groaned and said things like, "Aw, c'mon!" at those interruptions.

What cracks me up is why was the "gorilla gram" diversion even necessary? I know the eternal debate of nudity vs. violence will never be solved, but the amount of blood and severed limbs in this movie is ok, but a bit of butt and boob is off limits. Also one of the VIP guests looked like a young kid, so he was front row center for everything. My theater in CT has no young (under 16, I'd say) kids, so I'm not sure how the crowds were for evryone elses theaters.
As a Kickstarter contributor, it was enjoyable, but I had hoped for more (shorts, maybe a guest riffer). Having seen Starship Troopers back when it came out, I actually found myself trying to watch the movie since I hadn't seen it in years.
Looking forward to NOTLD in October. My first live Rifftrax was House on Haunted Hill and I loved that Halloween show.

I had a great time. It was a little disappointing not to have a short, but I understand that it might have been a bit too much with a two hour movie. I thought the fake trivia wasn't quite as good as it was in the past, but that's a minor quibble. On the whole I liked the jokes a lot. I was hoping for a Scanners reference and when they did one I was thrilled. The movie was silly (young soldiers have a night off and they cut loose with a fiddle?) and I liked how the guys made fun of the cliches. It was a fun night and I am definitely going to be there for Night of the Living Dead. (Sorry, book club!)
I am also happy to see that they have started using past Rifftrax shows for their pre-show test transmission. (I was getting so sick of that Gloria Estefan music!)

That was a fun night with lots of laughs. I had not seen the movie before and for me it seemed to drag on forever. Without the riffing it would have been quite harsh to sit through, but I truly had a great time. Plan on going again.

Yes, the wedding vow joke got howls from the audience. they hit a few triples but that was a homer. And attendance was really good, it wasn't quite sold out but i had to take some pretty crappy seats cuz they were all that was left.
Starship Troopers has always been a favorite of mine so there were times I kinda wanted them to clam up, and there were times when the humor in the movie upstaged them. That's not something that happens often in the Rifftrax/mst3k/CT universe. but all in all really fun, and better than that Giant movie they did recently, which for whatever reason bored me a bit.

Did the movie's loudness drown out some of the riffs for anyone else? During some of the beginning battle scenes especially? It felt like they fixed the sound mix by the end though, but for a while I could tell the riffers were saying something but it was getting drowned out in a shower of bullets.

yeah, totally, i noticed that. Starship Troopers is to movies as a Black Sabbath concert is to music, and they did struggle with projecting the lines over the more actiony bits.

Right at the beginning of the movie you could see Kevin tug on or point to his ear. I'm guessing he was trying to get the soundman's attention. He must have realized the mix was a little off. I imagine it would be difficult to balance the movie, especially with all the explosions, the riffers and the audience.

Awesome show last night! The guys did some great riffing here. The movie sure was violent though, but I think they still worked with it pretty well. And the theater I went to wasn't too full, but it was still a good audience nonetheless. For my first time seeing RiffTrax Live, I wasn't disappointed.

I have experienced this at all of the 6 shows I have seen to one degree to another. Last nights was the worst, due to the loudness of the film itself. Other times they had to compete with uproarious laughter (not their fault). However you look at it, I always miss some of the jokes between the two. Anyway, my party and I had a good time. I thought it was funny, and I still like the movie itself. For whatever reason, I think Manos has set the bar pretty high for me. Compared to all the other ones I've seen, it was the funniest. I hope they never stop trying to out do themselves tho. These events are high points for me. Everyone needs to laugh that hard and often from time to time.

I too had difficulty making out the riffing at certain points. Thankfully it wasn't bad enough to be a real distraction from the experience but I do suspect I might have missed a few good lines.
I saw the Manos show and, you know, I liked this a bit better. It might simply have been that the audience was more energetic and boisterous. The only other Rifftrax Live event I've seen was "Plan 9" and while that was funny the material was not very fresh at all.

My camera work is lousy. 23 hours driving total. Spending the night at my daughter's. 2 more hours driving tomorrow. I'll attempt to cobble together my opinion of the whole thing in the next few days Only picture of me. I look better blurry. View from our seats.

I've bever noticed much audio problems in tge other shows but I've only watched them on DVD and VOD. This has me wondering if the audio was cleaned up for post-release. I wonder if the audio problems will be fixed up for the re-release in September.
