On Saturday I took the plunge and finally bought my first iPod. I've wanted one for a long time, but never got around to getting one. But May 1 was my one-year anniversary of starting my job and I decided to buy a little present for myself to celebrate. So I purchased an iPod Classic and proceeded to fritter away my weekend learning how to use it. Getting it set up took some time, because at first my computer wasn't recognizing the device. But I finally figured it out, and then it was smooth sailing.
I've been very busy loading my CDs. In just two days I've loaded 200+ songs and I haven't even scratched the surface of my music collection. It's been fun, going through my music and picking and choosing the songs I want to keep.
My only quibble is that the earbuds keep falling out of my ears. I don't know if it's just a matter of getting used to them, or what. If it continues to be a problem, I'll just buy a different set of headphones. But it's a minor problem, and overall I'm very happy with my purchase. I'm going to have a lot of fun with this.

Glad you were able to get one. They are quite nice to have.

iPods are so 2000's. Smartphones are where it's at. But seriously, if you haven't used an iPod before (let alone an iPhone), I can understand the excitement of getting and using one for the first time. Congrats.

Err, sorry about that. I was mostly just joking around, but I guess I kinda pushed it. Sometimes my sense of sarcasm doesn't always come out right, so my apologies if you were offended. I really do hope you enjoy your new iPod.

That's the big drawback to these message boards -- you can't hear the person's voice so you never know how they meant to say something. No worries. We're cool. And thanks.

Just a tip for internet boards, especially here. Sarcasm is pretty much reserved for Sloane. Many of us have met each other through Board Meet-Ups or Live Shows of Rifftrax, Cinematic Titanic, etc. If you don't know the person that you are joking with, it's best to be just funny. Just sharing stuff I've learned, in the hope it will help others.

For a long time, I was against iPods and mp3s in general. I couldn't imagine why anyone would want to get rid of CDs and eliminate the joys of listening to an album all the way through, and instead shuffle randomly through songs out of context.
Then I got one as a gift for playing at a friend's wedding. Within hours, I decided that any product that gave me the ability to carry my entire music collection in my pocket was the greatest invention in human history.
Nice work, Hellcat. I hope you feel the same way I did.

That's exactly the way I feel, Mr. Atari! I have stacks and stacks of CDs, and I can put all of them on this thing that's about the size of a pack of cigarettes. It boggles the mind. I know I don't have to put every single song from every single CD on the iPod, but it feels great to know that I can if I want to. I feel like a kid with a new toy.
I tend to join the party late when it comes to technology. I didn't get a DVD player until 2005 and I didn't get my first cell phone until 2007. Heck, I still had dial-up until three years ago! And each time when I gave in and got these items, I had the same reaction: How did I manage without this? That's the feeling I have now with the iPod.

Congrats. They are fun aren't they? The funny thing is, I still have my CDs. I burn CDs from my iTunes purchases. I still want my hard copies -I'm weird that way- and therefor I've saved no space. The ipod I use for my favorite 'walking about or exercising' tunes. And yes, I have been teased about my ipod too. With new tech, it all changes faster than I can keep up with it. So when I get something new (like my ipod a few years ago) it's the stuff my nephews and nieces have moved on from and discarded. My phone for example, is still just an old phone. No pictures, no internet or apps, no lasers or weapons of mass destruction... It's just a damn thing I talk on... and that's the way ME likes it!

Ha ha! My phone's just a phone too. I haven't felt the need to upgrade. I can't even remember to turn it on half the time. My friends get pissed at me because they keep getting my voice mail.
