Yay, I have a music rant! I call it The Traveling Wilburys: A Missed Opportunity. The Traveling Wilburys should have been great but they were undermined by that damn Jeff Lynne. Harrison, Dylan, Petty, Orbison, that's all you need. In their publicity photos they were always in those long duster coats looking old-timey but Lynnee's chrome plated, shiny production just glossed over the whole concept. If they had been produced by T Bone Burnett or Rick Rubin, or possibly me they could have been something unique. They needed a more back porch approach. And when Roy died they should have added Carl Perkins. Seriously. why don't they think of consulting me?

i liked the traveling wilburys, but i know little about what happened with them. i assumed they broke up after orbison died. i remember thinking - why don't they call that phantom guy? - when he died, and i didn't even KNOW you back then. weird, eh?

If you're dead, you're a very articulate zombie. You don't seem to be craving brains either.

Have you tried a melon baller for scooping out a bit of brain now and then? You can fill the holes with Cheez Whiz and no one will be the wiser. Particularly the donor.

And thus another headache was created for music store workers... I actually enjoyed Lynne's production on this and the later Wilbury's album. He didn't go as overboard as he did with the Tom Petty albums a few years later. The sound of the Into the Great Wide Open album still makes me cringe. By the way, anyone see my melon baller?
