I still drink the Heineken. I'm just expanding my horizons a bit.

I have not, although I've seen those kits that you can buy to make your own. I am almost tempted to make my own beer some day.

A friend and I made beer a while back. It takes a fair amount of effort but is a lot of fun if you've got the time. You get to feel kind of mad scientist-y, which of course is half the fun. The other half is getting to drink it.

We were too snobby and pretentious to use a kit, and the kits at the time were not that good. We used different grains and hops and processes and kept switching around til we figured out what we liked best. I bet the kits these days are a lot better. I'm sure there are beer making web sites that can give you plenty of opinions.

I looked into the kits some time back. That's the way I would go. I would want it to be kind of easy and idiot-proof, what with being an idiot and all.

An idiot proof beer kit, the ultimate oxymoron. I've seen a few times stores selling a beer kit sitting right next to the ice cream makers. I guess it's just in case your beer turns into root beer.

Ooh! Can I have the recipe?
I think 'twould be wise for any beer lover to get a specialty kit, not the kind that's sold next to the ice cream makers. See? I'm still a snob.

the only reason i would ever want to learn how to make my own beer or wine would be if i knew i was headed for prison. i'm just glad someone invented the liquor store.
dr. z once sent me his recipe for homemade absinthe. i had to laugh - you have to build a still! as i've said, i almost burned down my apartment once making tater tots. i'm not about to build a still - i don't care if i am from the south.

Wait, you're from the south, I thought stills were mandatory.

Wait, you're from the south, I thought stills were mandatory. Well if a still is mandatory and spice doesn't have one does that make her a rebel or is she already a rebel just for being Southern and if she is a rebel why haven't you shot her?
