I laughed out loud tonight when Mrs. Atari made sloppy joes for the family and I realized that our kids have never known them as sloppy joes. Since before they were born, we've called them sloppy jimbos. "Frau lunchlady, please to have another sloppy jimbo?" Another Atari family tradition is that any time we go anywhere with a big parking lot, all the kids know what Dad's about to say. "Remember kids, we parked in the Itchy lot."

I haven't read all these, so I don't know if this was mentioned or not, but: On a sort of related note, The Simpsons will do a bit of guest starring of their own, on the Family Guy premiere.

They're about to show one I really like: Moe Baby Blues. Maggie ends up liking someone and it's Moe. Go figure? The Itchy Lot...I've gotta remember that one.

i don't think the season premiere has been mentioned yet, crowschmo. i have seen previews for it - i guess i'll watch if nothing else is going on. but i'm not a fan of family guy, and it seems like a desperate move from both shows to boost ratings, so i won't be too bummed if i miss it. the only one i ever liked from family guy was brian the dog and they killed him off. did they ever bring him back? i'm watching moe baby blues right now. i forgot about this one. it's kind of sweet. it always is when moe decides not to kill himself.

It's hard to imagine Moe being sweet but he definitely was in that episode.
I didn't mention earlier about what few Simpsons things I have. I never bothered to buy the DVD sets because I could always watch it on TV. I do have two of the 1990 Burger King Dolls that I bought at that time, one of Lisa and one of Maggie. I'm not sure why I never bothered to get the rest of the set.

Here are my favorite five:
1. BEHIND THE LAUGHTER - the "Behind the Music" Parody episode. Genius. Favorite line: "The Dream was over... coming up next, was the dream really over? Yes... yes it was...or was it?"
2. YOU ONLY MOVE TWICE - Featuring Albert Brooks as Hank Scorpio, the evil leader of Globex Corporation. Favorite line: "Homer, I understand... if you could do me a favor and kill someone on the way out, I'd really appreciate it."
3. SLEEPING WITH THE ENEMY - Nelson Muntz is my favorite Simpsons character. Him singing "Papa can you hear me" is absolutely beautiful. Favorite line: "Savor it... let the flavors dance on your pallet."
4. HOMER'S ENEMY - Frank "Grimey" Grimes hates Homer... and dies. Favorite line: "I'm peeing on the seat. Give me a raise!"
5. BART AFTER DARK - Bart works at a brothel. Favorite line: "We just heard this place existed!" The boys sing in "We put the Spring in Springfield."
Just five I really really like... too many others deserve comment as well.

I'm not sure why I never bothered to get the rest of the set. i don't really have any simpsons merchandise other than this coffee mug a friend gave me - it says "the many moods of homer simpson" and every picture of homer from 7am to 5pm he looks pissed except for his coffee break. i keep pens & junk in it on my desk. other than that, i have a cheap digital watch burger king had for a time many years ago. they had different characters on them and they would say some catch phrase. mine is krusty, and he says, "hey kids, it's STORY TIME!! *goofy krusty laughter*" i keep it in my desk drawer at work because i use it to time out the commercials i write. but it's so old now that sometimes something will knock up against it and krusty's voice will sounds all warped and slow, which is even funnier. "heeeey kiiiidsss....it's stoooorrrryy tiiiimmmmeee.... i also have some simpsons christmas ornaments - homer, bart and moe. and a homer pen that says a few different things that i can't remember at the moment. i only have seasons 2 and 3 on dvd, but this week i ordered season 4 for next to nothing off amazon that i am pretty excited to get, because i missed those on the marathon.

Perhaps this should be on a Family Guy thread, but there isn't one, and I don't feel like starting one, since I don't really watch it anymore. But I DID watch the premiere with The Simpsons guest starring. What did you all think? I think it had it's moments, but, unfortunately it was reduced to a long chicken fight, which is what you expect from Family Guy these days. But I thought parts of it were cute, and had a couple laughs here and there: Going over Springfield Gorge: Peter: We're going to make it! Homer: Trust me, we're not. Liked the fact also that they stuck Bob from Bob's Burgers in there for a cameo. What I'm really looking forward to is the Simpsons/Futurama crossover, which, I think, is in November. Edit: They showed how much more evil Stewie is than Bart, perhaps they should have a Stewie vs. Cartman ep, heh.

it's funny - i assumed the crossover was going to be on the simpsons premiere, not FG. so i watched the simpsons last night, cringing as i awaited for the inevitable. instead, it was another show about krusty giving up show business and bart convincing him not to. i think i've seen that one half a dozen times or so. i don't think i'll look up FG, though. i loathe the show as it is.
what's with the crossovers?? funny that they sneaked bob in, though. bob's burgers is a show i do like quite a bit.

I watched the crossover. Since the setting was Springfield, it was a bit jarring to see the Family Guy extreme-level humor (the gas station gag, Stewie torturing Nelson, Stewie's rape joke, etc). I enjoyed the meta stuff, though. The courtroom scene detailing all of the ways FG ripped off the Simpsons was great. Especially the reveal of Fred Flintstone at the end. The Bob's Burgers joke was great ("We gotta carry him because he can't fly on his own"), as was the Springfield Gorge joke. I liked Brian trying to figure out Santa's Little Helper and the Lisa & Meg subplot. There were also subtle music cues throughout, including the Stonecutters song.
Harry Shearer refused to participate (not sure if it was a contract thing or something else), and it was noticeable that they avoided all of his characters.

wow, i didn't know that about shearer. i didn't even realize i noticed his absence. yeah, i caved and watched it after i said i wouldn't. there were funny spots as youse guys said, but overall i was not impressed. it was kind of surreal to see quagmire sitting next to lenny and cleveland next to karl. i think more interaction between lois and marge would have been funny, as well as a little more between brian and santa's littler helper, but that's mainly because the only character i like on FG is brian. it was funny that even lisa is cooler than poor meg. the car wash scene - i couldn't help laughing at some of it - why did they have to put peter in high heels? didn't that oversell it a bit? but the drawn out "chicken" fight between homer and peter was stupid, imo. i was over it by then.
oh - did anyone watch the season premiere of the simpsons? i forgot to mention the opening couch gag. probably THE weirdest ones ever produced. i liked it. here it is, after about a 2 minute review of the show.
also - i am trying to remember that after that marathon, fxx is showing blocks of the simpsons - not just eps from the last few seasons, but old ones too - mon, tues, thur, fri & sundays. last night i watched the joy of sect, when homer and the family joins the "movementarians" and marge breaks out to get help from rev. lovejoy, ned and willie. i had forgotten how funny that one was.
