I've thought that their programming prevents them from fully empathizing with human emotions. Kind of like Bender, but much less evil. They were crying during the first host segment of Manos (after the film started) and Servo calls Joel "daddy". Heh

They both cried during the host segments for Fu Manchu.

Wow. We are REALLY over-thinking this.

Wow. We are REALLY over-thinking this. The internet is for three things: Nerdgasming, pointless FANRAGE over nothing, and over-thinking things that don't matter. We pride ourselves in doing all three on this board.

There really wasn't any need for deep thinking on these questions because they're just puppets. They basically act like your smart, wisecracking teenage friends, who might have really enjoyed getting their digs in and teasing but still were your friends.

Very enjoyable thread.
I agree with the general sentiment that the bots loved Joel and that it was a familial dynamic. He was the Dad, they were the rascally kids. And even though they would routinely misbehave, Joel was unquestionably the one in charge and had the final word.
With Mike, it felt almost like he was the slightly older kid/friend who was babysitting. He was in charge by default but didn't command any real respect. They absolutely loved him though. They were in it together, cracked each other up, made fun of each other....all the stuff that real friends do. They had no reverence for Mike or fear of him. They just loved hanging out with the guy.
