Hey gang,
I've come up with (what I feel is) thee perfect ten episodes of MST3K..
I know its been done many many times before, but I can't believe what some people
vote as their favorite episodes.. (The voters must have come up with their list without watching enough of the show first).
Now, most of my list are Mike Nelson starred episodes and sorry to say I am guilty of favoring Mike hosting compared to Joel, and I slightly favor Corbett to Trace.. Now for the list. (I've added some runner ups too).
Top Ten MST3K Episodes: (and in close of an order as I could)
1. Puma Man
2. Space Mutiny
3. Werewolf
4. Future War
5. Soultaker
6. Time Chasers
7. Laserblast
8. The Final Sacrifice
9. Overdrawn at the Memory Bank
10. Final Justice
Honorary Mentions worth noting:
The Touch of Satan * (I'd possibly replace for Final Justice)
Manos
Hobgoblins
Devil Fish
Pod People
Outlaw of Gor
Deathstalker
Prince of Space
Mitchell
The Brute
Whose with me?? I wish I could say I like a huge variety of the show, but I'm into the later episodes so much more.
I know humor is subjective, but I think this is a very well calculated list for long standing fans and/or people who are new to the show. I haven't seen them all of course.., but I've watched tons of episodes. Also, I didn't 'cop out' and list anything because of the shows timeline or the skits in between the films.. This list is all about the movies, 'the meat and potatoes.'
Even though the MST3K skits of the show are decent, its not really its reason for being. Those skits are there to add personality to the 'peanut gallery,' (the cast in theater). Also, sorry I don't have much Joel in there, but I really find the riffs in Mike's episodes to be that much more amusing... (I think it's because by the time Mike got in the cast, they had their formula really sought out.) Again, I know this has been done time and time again, but thanks for 'humoring me' on my list, and I hope a lot of you are on board with my opinion.. Thanks. -Tony
PS - If anyone gets bitter toward me about not having it split up with more Joel, forgive me, but it's the way I truly see it. I just get more laughs with Seasons like 8,9, and 10.. over Season 3.. and I saw a poll that favored Season 3 as the best season of the show! I was shocked. I don't want to make this dull with everyone tossing out a list..., but if you agree great, we can share a smile, if you don't agree... I'd like to see your own Top Ten..
maybe one day I'll figure out why people like the Joel episodes so much in comparison.. Nothing bad about most of those episodes..I don't blame it on the cast.. a lot of it deals with the movie content too.. A slow, black & white film noir or B monster movie, does not have potential for riffing like a lame teen drama situation from the color 80s and 90s era movies, especially because, by the time those movies were made, the film industry advanced to a point where they should not be screwing up so bad, lol.. when they spoof a hokey monster movie from the 50s though..., its not as easy to blame the filmmaker.., they didn't have much for special effects..idk, I graduated with a degree in film, so it's easier to pick a lot of things a part.. Some of those old B & W Joel episodes can be a little too dry and a touch boring for me..XO
Take care everybody,,
